Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya on Thursday demanded that the names of Aligarh be changed to “Harigarha” like Ayodhya and Prayagraj.
Addressing a ‘Hindu Gaurav Diwas’ function to mark the anniversary of Uttar Pradesh CM Kalyan Singh’s death, Maurya said that it was his wish that “Babuji”, as Singh is popularly known, the country’s highest civilian honor is honored with Bharat Ratna.
Kalyan Singh, a native of Aligarh, who served twice as the CM of Uttar Pradesh, is remembered for his role in the Ram Janmabhumi movement and for the BJP’s early development in the state.
“You all know that Ayodhya was once called Faizabad. But under the leadership of our respected Chief Minister (Adityanath), it was renamed to Ayodhya. Similarly, Prayagraj was earlier known as Allahabad. Two days ago, Jalalabad in Shahjahanpur was named Parsurpuri.
The Deputy CM shared the stage with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Union Cabinet Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Union Minister Jitin Prasad and other dignitaries, who paid tribute to Kalyan Singh.
Maurya also targeted the Samajwadi Party (SP) from the stage, saying that the opposition party’s pitch is “nothing but divided and governance” on the pitch PDA (Pichda, Dalit, Alpskahak).
“On the anniversary of Babuji’s death, we pledge to uproot the SP’s cycle (party symbol) and send it to Saifai. This would be a true tribute to Babuji,” he said, “Claps with BJP workers.”
