The centers of disease control and prevention employees in Atlanta remember the hard moment on Monday A gunman fired about 200 shots Last week, in several office buildings, a police officer who gave an answer was killed.
Four CDC activists, who were not authorized to speak publicly, told CBS News as a condition of anonymity that they were “deeply disappointed and disappointed” with a clear lack of leadership. Friday shootingThree out of four employees are mothers and all of them had different experiences of bullets: a building inside a building was inside a building, which would be shot later, one was inside the decare with his children, one was going into his car and the other was at home.
A CDC employee said, “I was going into my car. I heard a lot, very different and crisp, pop, pop, pop.” “I knew I would have to get myself for safety because if I continue to walk in the courtyard, I could potentially be in a murder field.”
The hearing platforms were among the two people with direct knowledge of the findings of the shooting in the CDC campus, hitting at least 150 windows and doors, with direct knowledge of the findings discovered from the ongoing investigation of shooting. Another CDC worker said that she was not sure for the first time whether the voice she had heard was construction noise or gunshot, then she saw a decar teacher running with three children. When the bullets started killing her building, the noise changed, she said. He recalled shelter at the place in his building for 2 hours, without knowing where the gunman was.
Police said the shooter, known as 30 -year -old Patrick Joseph White, died during the incident. It is not clear whether White died of a self-infused gun bullet or police bullets. Atlanta Mayor Andre Dickens said on Friday that his purpose in this phase of investigation is still unknown.
Several White neighbors told CBS News that he was vocal against vaccines, and a law enforcement source said that the officials were looking at the possibility that the gunman believed that Kovid -19 had made him sick.
Asked if he “saw this”, another employee said, “I wouldn’t say that we saw it coming. I would and I would say that it was not surprising.”
“CDC is really unsafe for a long time,” he said. “It is shocking but not surprising.”
The previous employee told CBS News that she was leaving a decar with her children in front of the CDC campus and when she heard the bullets she was moving towards her car. She said that she sprint back in the decare and hid with about eight children inside the bathroom, the only place without windows.
“My children kept asking what was a loud popping noise,” he said. “I still know how it has affected my children.”
Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy visited the CDC headquarters on Monday, who was killed and a meeting with the widow of the killed police officer, David Rose.
In a statement on Monday, HHS shared Kennedy’s comment X post On Saturday: “We are very sad from tragic shooting in the Atlanta campus of CDC, who took an officer David Rose’s life. We are standing with his wife and three children and the entire CDC family.”
At a news conference after Kennedy’s visit, CDC Union AFGE local 2883 spokesperson, who represents around 2,300 members, said the group came to know about shooting before CDC sent a systemwide alert.
The Sangh criticized Kennedy after its visit, saying, “He spent less time on the ground than the attacker.” He called for better communication, as well as extending security, including 24/7 perimeter armed guards, bulletproof glass installation, weapon detection measures and more comprehensive withdrawal schemes.
CDC employees who spoke to CBS News said that they expect more from the Health Secretary, hopefully condemning the rhetoric that they feel that the shooting was led to the shoot.
In the context of Kennedy, an employee said, “I think the challenge is that it would be difficult for anyone to believe that he is honest.” Anti-vaccine statement“He is trapping … The entire administration is trashing the CDC and the work we do.”
