Two British brothers, aged 11 and 13, have died, according to local authorities, have died after drowning from a beach on the eastern coast of Spain.
The Civil Protection Force of the Catalonia region said that the boys died on Tuesday evening after entering the water in Larga Beach in Salau, Targana.
Emergency services were called at 20:47 local time and the father of the boys, who also entered the water, was rescued alive.
Seven medical units were sent to the spot and police and fire services also participated.
Authorities also sent a team of psychologists to support the family.
Officials said the deaths begin on June 15, the Catalan brings the number of deadly people on the beaches to 16 – five more than the same period last year, the officials said.
A spokesman from the UK Foreign Office said: “We are supporting the family of two British children who are killed in Spain and are in touch with local authorities.”
The Civil Protection Force “the importance of excessive caution on beaches, swimming pools and inland water in this summer”.
It comes after several other British deaths in Spain in this summer.
