Brazilian President Luiz Eneasio Lula da Silva said on Thursday that he would impose a retaliation on the United States, if President Donald Trump pledged to promote import taxes up to 50% on the criminal case of the South American country against his predecessor, Zayar Bolsoro.
Lula said that he would trigger Brazil’s reciprocity law approved earlier this year, if a conversation with the US fails.
Lula told the TV record in an interview parts, “If there is no conversation, the mutuality law will be kept to work. If he charges 50 (% tariff) with us, we will pay 50 from them,” Lula told the TV record in an interview parts that the day would be completely broadcast. “Honor is good. I like to offer myself and I like to get it.”
Lula’s comments increased the risk of a tariff war between the two countries, which took place between the US and China. Trump has vowed to forcefully respond whether the country wants to punish America by adding its own tariffs.
Senate President of Brazil, Sen Davi Alkolumbre, and the Chamber of Deputy Speaker Hugo Motta, who recently been on obstacles with Lula, agreed that the recipient law gives Brazilian a means of “to protect our sovereignty …”.
“We will be ready to work with balance and perseverance in the safety of our economy, our productive sector and Brazil’s jobs,” he said, “he said in a joint statement.
Trump sent to Brazil to Tariff letter – and posted on social media on Wednesday – Railings opened a new front in their trade wars against the “Witch Hunt” test against Bolsoro, in which the American leader intervened in domestic politics of another country using direct import taxes.
Trump has already tried to use tariffs, which to combat fentinel trafficking and other nations to tax digital services and regulate their economies as a dialogue tool.
In the Brazilian case, Trump is trying to determine the result of Bolsoro’s criminal trial, an associate who has been accused of trying to reverse the presidential election like Trump. Bolsonro says that he is being politically persecuted by the Supreme Court of Brazil in 2022 by the Supreme Court of Brazil in 2022 by the Supreme Court of Brazil.
“Lula or Brazil is nothing that can do about Bolsoro’s testing,” said Carlos Mello, a professor at Insper University in Sao Paulo. “Any change in it will be Brazil’s capitulation. The position of Bolsoro will not change here. How do you talk about it?”
Lula on Thursday ordered his diplomats to return Trump’s letter, if it comes physically in the President’s Mahal in Brasilia. The document attacks the judiciary of the country and refers to recent decisions on social media companies in the reasons for South American nation goods. There will be more tariffs from August 1.
Trump has launched its tariff under the 1977 International Emergency Economic Powers Act, saying in April, the frequent deficit between what American exports and what it imports is a national crisis.
But the US runs a business surplus with Brazil, reduces some argument.
An employee of the Brazilian Foreign Ministry told Associated Press that Trump has now “in the air”, the ongoing business talks since the first set of tariffs was set up in April.
Some members of the Lula administration say that Trump’s move is actually aimed at a relationship with other Southern economies of Brazil, as was displayed on the peak of the BRICS nations hosted in Rio de Janeiro on Sunday. The President of Brazil once again mentioned hope for an alternative currency for an alternative currency for transactions, a subject that often attracts Trump’s IRE.
Brazil’s institutional relations minister Glisi Hoffman said, “Trump was not worried about democracy anywhere, very rare with the fate of Bolsorno,” Brazil’s institutional relations Minister Glissy Hoffman said.
Trump’s intervention in Brazilian affairs has brought a sense of unity which was largely absent in a politically divided nation. Some of Bolsono’s colleagues claimed that Lula had drawn the anger of the US President with other decisions including criticism of Israeli war in Gaza. But other supporters of the former President chose to ask for Vivek in the conversation.
Lula and his administration constant critic Daily O Estaddo DS Paulo said in an editorial on Thursday that Trump’s move against the Brazilian government “is a mafia.” It was also said that Lula’s response was correct, a rare feature for the newspaper.
Analysts also saw Trump’s attempt to intervene in the country’s domestic affairs as a potential backfire for Bolsono during his test and a push for Lula, whose reunion dialect was facing unpopular headwind this year.
Canadians recently elected Mark Carney as Prime Minister, threatened to make Trump’s tariff and Canada the 51st American state with their liberal party.
Andre Pagalirini, a professor of history and international studies at Louisiana State University, said, “The reaction of many people is that it is a political gift for Lula.”
Thomas Tromon, an independent political advisor and former Brazilian minister, called Trump’s move for next year’s election “a game changer”.
“Trump put Lula back in the game,” Tomon said. “It gives Lula a legend, keeping Bolsoro as a guilty part for any economic problems.”
The US Court of International Trade ruled in May that Trump had crossed its authority by announcing the emergency to impose tariffs without the approval of the Congress. The Trump administration is appealing for that decision, but opponents plan to use their Brazil letters to extend their case.
Democratic Oregan Sen Ron Widen said, “This is an illegal effort to sacrifice the economy by Donald Trump to settle his own personal score, and it is beyond his legal rights.”
The Republican administration has argued that their tariffs are now relatively harmless to the American economy, as inflation has decreased in recent months. But many companies staged imports to overtake import taxes, and it is not clear what happens when their invention decreases and consumers consider the risk of high prices. Most of the outside economic analysis is expected to increase.
In Brazil, Trump’s interest in Bolsoro’s test is expected to weigh during the test. Media outlets have reported that MPs and judges are worried that the former President will try to leave Brazil for the US if he is convicted.
A son of the former President, lawmaker Eduardo Bolsono moved to the US in March. On Wednesday night, he asked his supporters to post “thank you to President Donald Trump”.
In Thursday’s interview, Lula said that the elder Bolsonaro should “take responsibility for Brazil to agree with Trump’s taxation.”
Lula said, “His son went there to make Trump’s mind, then he (Trump) writes a letter to speak about a case that is in the hands of the Supreme Court. A case that is not a political test. Is there proof of the case under investigation,” Lula said.
