Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government has designed to introduce the Kerala prohibition of ragging (amendment) bill, 2025 to end its two -decade -old anti -rugging law. The move comes in the wake of the death of JS Siddharthan – Pukod, Wayanad, a student of Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University in his hostel last February – exposed the important flaws in the current 1998 Act.For the first time, the revised bill clearly defines ragging to include body shaming, psychological oppression and digital misconduct, making them punishable under law. Harassment through the Internet or any other electronic mode will now be a cognitive offense. The amendment made the scope of ragging wider to include a wide range of criminal acts, such as elimination, criminal conspiracy, illegal assembly and riot.
