An investigation has been launched after the UK Memorial Flight (BBMF) battle. Lancaster Bomber first faced an engine problem, confirmed by RAF.
Everro Lancaster PA474, who was attending the RAF Waddington Family Day at Lincolnshire, sent a general emergency alert because black smoke was seen coming from one of his four engines.
According to the RAF, the crew of the reputed World War two aircraft “diagnosed unusual engine behavior” and in the RAF Concency “returned to its base as a precautionary measure”.
A RAF spokesperson said: “The crew is well trained to handle such events, and an investigation into the aircraft has been initiated.”
None of the aircraft was injured and is not known that the investigation will affect the upcoming scheduled appearance.
BBMF also operates five spitfire, two storms and one C47 dakota.
Lancaster World War is the most famous and successful RAF bomber of two.
The PA474 that was created out of 7,377 is one of the only two airwriting langors in the world.
