The US Air Force says that the B -52 bomber, which was a close miss with the flight of Delta Airlines on North Dakota on Friday, was flying an approved flight path.
The Air Force issued a statement on Monday, saying that the federal aviation administration is still investigating the incident. The B-52 bomber was in the air to operate a flyover at the Northern Dakota State Fair, which was pre-informed and planned by the FAA in advance.
The Air Force says that B -52 pilots were in contact with Minot International Airport and Minot Approach Control (Rapakon).
“Before the flyover at around 7:10 pm, the B -52 crew contacted the Minot approach (rapon) for the preparation of the flyover. The required checklists were completed, and the crew remained in touch with the minot approach, as it flew for its holding point in 12 miles east of the Fairground, while the B -52 crew called the flyover to a train for a traffic and a train in a train.

“Minot approach directed the B -52 crew at 7:43 pm to contact the air traffic control of Minot International Airport. The B -52 crew contacted Minot International Airport Tower and the tower instructed to continue 2 miles west after flyover. The tower did not advise the inbound commercial aircraft,” the statement continued.

The federal aviation administration confirmed that it was investigating the incident.
“Skywest Flight 3788, was working as a delta connection from Minianpolis, Minnesota, Minot, North Dakota on 18 July, securely landed in Minot after the tower was cleaned to the approach, but another aircraft performed a cow-off when it appeared in its flight path.”
“We are investigating the incident,” the spokesman said.

A video posted on social media included the audio of the pilot, stating what happened to the passengers.

Pilot said, “Looking at his speed … I don’t know how fast they were going, but they were very faster than us. I felt that it was the safest job to turn back.”
“So regret about aggressive maneuver. It surprised me,” he continued. “This is not normal at all. I don’t know why they did not give us the head-up, because the air force is radar in the base … The long story is short, it was not fun, but I apologize for it, and thank you for understanding. Not a fun day at work.”
