The Prime Minister of Australia has promised to take strong action after a clear arson attack on an orderly in Melbourne.
The police is searching for a person who put a liquid on the front door of the synagogue before setting the fire on Friday night. At that time some 20 people were emptied without any injury without dinner.
The police is also trying to determine whether the incident is associated with an attack against a Jewish-owned restaurant in the city the same night.
Australia has a string of antisemtic attacks in the last few months, surrounded by stress on the Israeli-Hamas war.
The Australian government has appointed a special messenger to combat antisementism, and has passed difficult laws against hatred crimes after a wave of high-profile attacks.
“Antisemitism has no place in Australia,” Prime Minister Anthony Albani said after the attack on the Eastern Melbourne Sinagog.
“Those responsible for these shocking acts will have to face the full strength of the law and my government will provide all the necessary assistance for this effort,” Albanis said.
It is not clear that the incident was associated with an attack on the Mizon restaurant in the city’s trade district, during which the rioters broke, “chanting deaths for IDF and thrown away chairs and other items. [Israel Defense Forces]”. Some attackers were taken into handcuffs.
Alex Rivechin, co-Chief Executive Officer of Australian Jewish Executive Council, said, “These incidents have increased a serious increase towards our community.”
Israeli Foreign Minister Gidon Sar said, “There have been a lot of antisemic attacks in Australia.”
“The Australian government should do more to fight this toxic disease.”
The ongoing struggle in the Middle East has become an unstable political issue in Australia.
As a result, there has been a sharp increase in Islamophobia and antisementism along with opposition from both Jews and Muslim communities.
In response to the 7 October 2023 attack, the Israeli army launched a campaign in Gaza, killing around 1,200 people and 251 others were taken hostage.
According to the health ministry of the region, at least 57,268 people have been killed in Gaza since then.
