China welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit in Tianjin later this month, the country’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiyakun said that PM Modi reacts to the report of the upcoming visit to the neighboring nation of the neighboring nation.“China welcomes Prime Minister Modi in China for the SCO Tianzin Summit,” the spokesperson said. The summit set from 31 August to 1 September will bring leaders from more than 10 countries together, including all SCO member states, heads of 10 international organizations.Ziakun said that Tianjin Summit will be the largest since the establishment of the organization. He also expressed confidence that it would be a gathering of solidarity, friendship and fruitful consequences.He said that the SCO was “designed to enter a new phase of high quality development, which has more solidarity, coordination, mobility and productivity.”This will be Prime Minister Modi’s first visit to China since the 2020 Galvan Valley Conflict and will come amidst the ongoing trade tension with the United States. The SCO summit serves as a major platform for the member states to discuss regional security, economic cooperation and geopolitical issues.PM Modi last met Chinese President Xi Jinping in 2024 during the BRICS summit in Kazan, Russia, which was his first formal meeting in five years. As his upcoming visit, US President Donald Trump imposed an additional 25 percent tariffs and fine against India for continuous import of Russian energy against India, a large amount of purchased item by both New Delhi and Beijing.
