A cast member at the Royal Opera House has uprooted a Palestinian flag on the stage during a Saturday performance curtain calls.
The video shows a brief scuffle as an officer at the London site, unsuccessfully trying to stop the protest, the artist refused to go to the big flag.
It came to the end of Il Trovatore at night, which was a four-act opera by Giuseppe Verdi.
The Royal Opera House stated that the protest was “completely inappropriate for curtain calls”.
A spokesperson said: “The demonstration of the flag was a simple and unauthorized action by the artist.
“It was not approved by Royal Ballet and Opera and does not correspond to our commitment to political impartiality.”
A cast member standing on top of the stage is seen quietly displaying a large Palestinian flag in the video of the incident, shaking it gently at a point.
While the audience has appreciated the performance, a person with stage wings attempts to remove the flag from the cast member, but they oppose it for the remaining calls of the curtain and hold on to it.
The other officers were standing in the wings, then the artists can be seen shouting the message.
A member of the audience posted on X: “Tonight the extraordinary view at the Royal Opera House.
“During curtain calls for Il Trovatore, one of the background artists came on stage waving the flag of Palestine.
“Just standing there, someone was bending or shouting. Someone tried to take off anyone from the stage. Unreliable.”
The identity of the cast member is not clear, but Il Tovetor has now completed its 11-ri run at the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden.
The protest comes when the war between Israel and Gaza continues, so far with a ceasefire.
