According to the decisions proposed by the UK competition regulator, Apple and Google may need to change some of their mobile services in the UK.
Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) is investigating technical veterans on its app store, browsers and operating systems.
The CMA said, “About 90–100%of UK mobile devices running on UK or Google’s mobile platforms,” This means that firms “hold an effective duality”.
Apple said it is concerned that the ruling UK would negatively affect its customers, while Google called the decision “both disappointing and unfair”.
A law that came out last year means that the regulator can demand a change in a firm if it is found to have too much market power.
The proposed decision will design Apple and Google as a “strategic market status”.
Before finalizing the decision, companies have a month to make their matters to the CMA.
If it is finalized, companies may have to change their services in such a way that the regulator says that promotes competition and gives more options to consumers.
The CMA is focusing on companies’ app stores, including Apple and Google’s own app compared to their app with rival apps.
CMA Chief Executive Officer Sara Cardel said the proposal “UK app will enable developers to be at the forefront of global innovation, while the UK consumers will ensure to achieve world -class experience”.
What does Apple and Google say?
A spokesman for Apple said, “We are concerned that the UK is now considering rules that will reduce privacy and security security that our users have expected, obstruct our capacity, and force us to give foreign competitors to give their technology for free.”
“We will continue to connect with the regulator to ensure that they fully understand these risks.”
Google’s senior director Oliver Bethel said that “it was important that any new regulation is evidence-based, proportional and does not have a road for development in the UK.”
He added Android operating systems, chrome browser and play app store “enable great options, security and innovation for users”.
“We are committed to creative connections with the CMA for the period of this process,” he said.
Android and blink, which gives strength to the engine chrome browser, is an open source, which means that developers can use their underlying code for free.
The view of Google enables more competition and allows to make cheap products.
Who is the consumer rights group? The investigation was welcomed by the regulator.
“While these companies have operated innovation, their dominance is now causing real damage to consumers and businesses dependent on them,” said Rosio Concha, director of policy and advocacy.
Regulation around the world
Apple and Google, along with other technical giants, are subject to many competitions and regulation investigations in the UK, European Union and the US under recently introduced new laws in each field.
Apple has been subject to competition restrictions in the European Union, and returned against last month European Commission fined € 500 meters,
The European Union’s enforcement hand accused app store users of dissolving the law by restricting the capacity of app developers to promote alternative marketplace.
The company is fighting similar allegations related to payment options in its app store In America,
Last month, CMA announced in a separate investigation Google holds strategic market status in search and advertising,
CMA Boss Sara Cardel said that there were “tremendous benefits” for Google search – which were responsible for the UK’s more than 90% of discoveries – its investigation suggested that there could be ways to make the region more open and competitive.
Watchdog said he was not accusing Google of anti-competitive practices, but would set a “roadmap” of a change in his business before the final decision in October.
