What happened inside the jails while the nation was struggling with Kovid -19 epidemic? How is the corruption between the jailer and the prisoners behind the bars? And how are the rules for high-profile prisoners held in the notorious anda cells of Maharashtra-high-security egg-shaped units?
An accused scholar in the 2017 Elgar Parishad (EP), Anand Teltumbe – Bhima Koregaon case, who spent about 31 months inside Taloja Jail, has written to his gel memoir in Bloomsbury India (2 September release) in his book – The Sale and the Sol. Teletumbe provides the life of an internal formula behind bars. He also revolutionized his conversation with co-composed FR. Stan Swamy, who was repeatedly killed after bail, was rejected.
Recorded in such an ea cell, the teletumbe wrote how cells are actually a showpiece area, with less prisoners (unlike crowded gel), and better in many ways. Ajmal Kasab, Abdul Karim Telgi, Arun Gavali, Indian Mujahideen had registered prisoners such as the accused in the past and in the past.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has accused Teltumbde, number 10 of linking the accused, Communist Party of India (MAOIST) and calling the notorious 2017 Elgar Parishad case, causing Bhim Koregaon violence.
In his book, the Teletembe mentions a notorious don in the Anda Sale, who cut the prison officials. “Dawn’s influence increased within the prison walls. Guardes treated them, and they often shared their abundant canteen supply – fruits, drinks and syrup – with our and jail staff. 4,500 (also supporting the prisoners who depended on us), Dawn and other rich prisoners enjoyed unlimited supply through a provision of 40:60 ratio. This informal system allowed prisoners to receive any amount of goods from the canteen, provided they paid the value of 150 percent items. The nuances of these transactions were not clear, but it was generally believed that monetary exchange was in cash outside the jail, ”he said in his book.
Dalit Icon Br Ambedkar’s grandson, Teltumbde has also not revealed Dawn’s name, but mentioned that Kannadiga man was a famous person in the world of crime. Despite being the owner of a house in Bandra, Don chose to live in Dharavi, where he made a significant impact. “Enda served as a performance piece, intended to affect visitors. The prisoner.
Teltumbde wrote in a chapter titled -WE Lost Stan- How the jail authorities refused to help the elderly Jesuit priest, suffering from Parkinson’s, with basic items such as a straw and winter clothes. He mentions how about two months old legal battle took place to achieve original items. The 84 -year -old priest, who was arrested on 8 October 2020 and brought to Taloja Hospital on the next evening, revealed in the court about the trembling in both hands, making it difficult for him to catch or eat a glass.
“Stan had many issues in the jail due to his health status. He could not even hold a glass of water to drink. Outside, he told us that he used a sipper bottle and straw to drink water, but was brought by the jail staff, when he could not hear a hearing and he could not listen to the phone during food.
The author has said that requests for Stan’s full-speed sweaters, a thin blanket and two pairs of socks were also refused by 4 December, when the court directed the jail staff to prove them an item.
Accusing the jail authorities of recovering Covid-19 cases and prisoners on their own, the Teletumbde said that Stan also signed the virus but the jail authorities denied it.
“… if it was not for his Parkinson, his health was otherwise good for his age… .. This oximeter reading was falling, and I informed the doctor and the jailer, requesting that they send him to an external hospital. They had contracted Covid-19.
Stan Swamy died on July 5, 2021 in a private hospital in Mumbai.
Teletumbe has also given an insight into the handling of the Kovid -19 epidemic prison at one time when a nationwide lockdown and family trips were banned in jails across the country.
“I entered the jails during Kovid -19 and saw a joke called Social Distanceing … Jail authorities re -prepared a school for quarantine, cramming 35-40 prisoners in each class, shoulder sleeping shoulder. Was, more than 55 people added to space for 30 or 35.
He also said that when there was no proper medical help, when he was also unwell, when the prison authorized the prisoners selected for Covid -19, there were many people, including them, who had antibodies. “It only confirms that we had long suspected: We were all infected. Some of us survived. Other people like Stan did not.”
Teletumbe book also mentions how two people arrested 17 banks in a multi -crore scam, in a notorious case of cheating, used their clots to get the rules ticked with the help of a don, which bribed the jail authorities. He said, “Every evening, they move to the telephone room and rest in the conversation with their families. Don mediates his reach to the jail authorities, and the money took care of the rest,” he said in the book.
Unlike Swami or other prisoners hospitalized requests, the Teletumbde shared an anecdote as to how both of them used their clouts in hospitals. The younger brother was admitted to the hospital for a top position hospital for months, after which the elder brother was also at Cam Hospital in Mumbai. There used to be a board in the front gate office, showing the names of the prisoners, who were admitted to outside hospitals to see anyone. While people like us had to fight in courts to take out to outside hospitals as outpathers for serious health issues, rich prisoners were meeting together in private hospitals for months. The papers stated that they were running their businesses from the hospital rooms. ,
Teletumb also writes about another prisoner – a Pune Builder, who was also dubbed as the God of Good Times, Pune, admitted to a hospital for terror attacks. The author has mentioned that after his release on bail, when he went to meet his mother in the same hospital, the man was in the VIP room of the same hospital, as well as his minions were not had lunch in which there was no guard. “He continued to enjoy his royal stay in the VIP suite of St. George Hospital, especially for his parties, the front lawn was done, as we saw during many of our visits in the nearby VIP suites when my mother-in-law was re-hospitalized.”
