Guwahati: Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived in Guwahati on Thursday evening on a two-day visit to prepare for the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party for next year’s assembly elections in April-May.
Shah was obtained by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and BJP state chief Dilip Saikia at Lokpriya Gopinath Boardoloi International Airport.
In a post on X before departing for Guwahati, Shah said that he would remain in the state for two days. Shah said, “Today, he will preside over the BJP’s Core Committee meeting in Guwahati.
He said, “Later the day will address the birth centenary celebrations of ‘NDA Panchayat Pratinidhi Samlan’ and former CM Golp Borbora ji. Eager to meet the enthusiasts of Assam,” he said.
On Friday, Shah Raj Bhavan will inaugurate the newly constructed Brahmaputra Wing and Jyoti Bishanu will review the progress of the cultural complex, a seating capacity for 5,000 people.
From the airport, Shah went directly to the BJP’s State Head Office Vajpayee Bhavan, where attended the BJP’s core committee meeting. He will spend the night at the state guest house.
Next to Shah’s visit, the BJP’s BJP on Wednesday announced the 18 -member core committee, which will discuss the preparations and plans for the assembly elections on Thursday evening with the Union Home Minister.
The committee consists of state unit chief Dilip Saikia, CM Sarma, Assam Union Minister, Sarbanand Sonowal and Pabitra Margerita, MP Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, former state unit chief Bhajat Kalita and ministers Ranjit Das, Ashok Sinhal and Ranj Pegu.
BJP’s state in-charge Harish Dwivedi, North East Coordinator Sambbit Patra and Northeast’s co-co-operative V Muralitharan Committee and the new 13-member election committee are specially invited.
Other people of the Election Committee include State Head Saikia, CM Sarma, Union Minister Sonowal, MP Electricity Kalita Medi, State Barua, Parimal Sukalabaidya and Minister Pijush Hazarika. The party also named a five -member disciplinary committee headed by MP Kanad Purkastha.
The BJP, which instigated the Congress in 2016 to form its first government in the northeastern state, is targeting for the third consecutive victory. The two regional groups, Asom Gana Pareshad and United People’s Party Liberal, are its coalition partners.
