Dharli flash flood
Many other people are missing in Cloudbers in Dharli village of Uttarakhand, while at least four people have died.
The village is only one kilometer from Harsil on the village Gangotri highway, which is a major pilgrimage route for Gangotri Dham.
Flash Flood, which hit around 1:40 pm on Tuesday, sent a sudden bounce of boulders, debris and mud through the area, demolished houses, shops, houses and hotels.
Eyewitnesses and officials described the incident as reminiscent of the 2021 Chamoli disaster, killing more than 200 people.
District Disaster Management Officer Sharadul Gusain confirmed that four bodies have been recovered so far.
“We have received reports of four deadly people. The district administration, police, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), rescue teams from the state disaster response force (SDRF), and the army have been deployed on the site and are undergoing rescue operations,” said Dushan.
Officials said that many people would have been swept away in the waterfall, and the exact toll would be clear only after the evaluation teams return from the affected site.
Preliminary reports suggest that the sudden increase in Kheer Ganga revolution was caused by a cloudburst in high access. The Serge caught the villagers completely from the guard.
“Water came like a wall. Within moments, everything was swept away,” said Lokendra Bisht, a senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and owner of a homestay in Harsil.
He said, “People were going about their daily activities when floods. Many houses, hotels and shops have been completely destroyed”, he said.
Visual from the site tries to overcome their belongings to ruined structures, debris -covered roads, and nervous locals. This area has been cut due to road interruptions and broken communication lines.
Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, who is closely monitoring the situation, has directed the authorities to intensify the rescue efforts.
“Life and property loss in Uttarkashi is tragic in Uttarkashi. I have instructed the district administration to ensure fast and coordinated rescue and relief operations,” he said in a statement.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah spoke to CM Dhami and took stock of the situation.
During telephonic conversation, Shah expressed concern over life loss and massive destruction due to cloudburst-inspired floods and assured the state government for all possible assistance from the Center.
According to officials, Shah said that the central government stands strongly with Uttarakhand in this difficult time and rescue and relief should be conducted during the war. He assured that essential personnel and resources of central agencies including NDRF will continue to support local authorities.
If necessary, additional teams and helicopters are on standby to deploy. Temporary shelters and relief camps are being set up in nearby safe areas for people displaced by disaster.
