But if you are worried that your holiday may still be subject to delay or cancellation – or you’re thinking about cancellation of it yourself – BBC News has spoken to a series of experts where you stand.
If it is safe to travel, but you won’t like, what can you do?
If you are concerned that your employed migration may be prone to the wildfire and you don’t want to go anymore – say that a wildfire is near your resort, even if it has not damaged it directly – you may have options.
Some travel insurance providers allow you to buy additional coverage in case of natural destruction such as wildfires, should they be near your leisure destination – such as within 20 km radius.
But if you have not paid for this additional cover and decided that you do not want to travel anymore, or want to come home early, and the Foreign Office says that it is safe to travel, you will not be able to claim for the cost of cancellation through insurance.
“There is a need to be appropriate evidence for why you can’t go [or need to leave]”RHYS Jones states.” I think there is restlessness or unhappiness about the country [isn’t enough],
during Rhodes Wildfire in 2023Some airlines canceled their package holidays, but not their flights.
In this case – and with any similar conditions in this summer – the general advice is to chat in your airline and hotel, as applied, as your circumstances can be offered a bespoke solution.
Claiming travel insurance
According to European Commission data, the total area burnt by wildfire has increased by 13% from last week, in Europe this year has so far burnt more than 290,000 hectares – more than doubled figures at the same time last year.
If you have travel insurance, the most disruption in your journey caused by wildfires should be covered under your standard policy, a travel insurance specialist of Gocompare Rhys Jones.
“As a result of wildfire, any kind of cutlement or cancellation of your journey – whether you cannot travel to your destination or you have to come home early – should be covered.”
He said that the cost incurred due to other emergency measures such as withdrawal, transfer or medical expenses should also be included. Earlier last month, in Crete, 5,000 people, many tourists were temporarily evacuated during wildfire.
Under a standard policy, Mr. Jones says that official advice is usually required not to travel from the Foreign Office or any other authority, so that a successful insurance claim to cancel can be made.
But some travel insurance providers will cover you if you decide against starting your journey before issuing such advice, which Rhodes tells a travel expert?
“For example, if the journey has been interrupted or the specific area you are living is affected, the best thing is to contact the insurer to check where you are standing – and make sure you do this before canceling any booking.”
What will happen if you do not have travel insurance?
According to research published by The Travel Association (ABTA), one of the four Britain, which has been on a foreign holiday in the last 12 months in the last 12 months, according to research published by the Travel Association (ABTA) in May.
“If you have no insurance, but your holiday provider or airline has canceled the booking, you may still be eligible for refunds from these companies,” Joe Rhods.
Holidackers often appear out for package holidays that are protected by air travel organizers (ATOL) – but this is not a form of travel insurance.
The Atol plan only protects you if your holiday company busts. If you are already riding in a flight, or they will help you reach home to claim for a refund, if you are yet to travel.
The plan does not allow you to claim compensation for a canceled journey or flight, or delay, which is caused by wildfire.
Where you are standing with your airline
If you are departing from the UK airport on any airline, or reaching the UK airline in the European Union, then you are covered by the UK law, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) says,
This means that the airlines should provide you care and help if your flight is delayed by two or three hours, which is depending on the distance – including supplying food and beverage vouchers and returns to phone call cost if necessary.
And, CAA states, if your flight is canceled and resolved in the second day, your airline will have to provide housing and transport.
However, you are unlikely to get compensation for disruption related to wildfire or excessive heat, as it will probably be considered a “extraordinary situation”, so the airline will not be classified as a mistake.
If you are delayed by more than five hours and you don’t want to travel now, you may be able to get refund from your airline, according to CAA.
The body makes it clear that if your flight is canceled, you may have to wait a while but your airline needs to reach your destination.
