Chandigarh, Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini said on Wednesday that the Central Water Commission and senior officials of Haryana and Delhi governments will be included to clean the Yamuna river on the lines of the Ganges river.

According to an official statement here, Saini on Wednesday attended a meeting on “Inter-State Coordination related to Yamuna Water Rejuvenation” under the chairmanship of Union Water Minister, CR Patil in New Delhi on Wednesday.
Speaking after the meeting, Saini said that since the formation of the Delhi government under the leadership of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, developmental plans are being prepared at a rapid pace, and their implementation is continuously moving forward.
He said that work for cleaning the Yamuna river is being done on the basis of a war.
Saini said that the process of treating sewage water from drains through sewage treatment plants before releasing in the river has increased significantly.
He said that under the ongoing campaign, 16,000 metric tons of garbage was already removed from the Yamuna.
He said that Yamuna’s rejuvenation is the top priority of both Haryana and Delhi governments and he assured that the public would soon be a witness to a clean and rejuvenated river.
The Chief Minister said that “the BOD level of the drain falling from Palla village in Karanal district to Yamuna river is 80, and necessary steps are being taken to further purify this water”.
He said that there has been a significant improvement in the BOD level of Yamuna water in Okhla, Faridabad.
To further increase the quality of water, 44 sewage treatment plants have already been installed, through which about 620 MLD water is being treated every day. In addition, nine more STPs are being installed to clean another 510 MLD water.
He said that issues related to environment and water do not know any limit, and the two states will have to work together to completely clean the Yamuna.
Saini said that strict measures are being taken to ensure that the polluted water has not been directly discharged into the river, and the officials have already been issued necessary directions in this regard.
He informed that the services of representatives and experts of both Delhi and Haryana will be used to monitor Najafgarh Lake and Drain.
Apart from this, the BOD level of polluted water from industries in Haryana will also be tested regularly, he said.
In the meeting, Union Secretary Devashree Mukherjee, Delhi Chief Secretary Dharmendra Kumar, Additional Chief Secretary of Haryana Vineet Garg, Additional Chief Secretary, Irrigation Department, Haryana, Anurag Agarwal and senior officials of the Department of Irrigation and Environment were also present.
