Author David Lit, whose new book is called “It’s Only Drawing: A True Story of Learning to Surf and the Search for Common Ground”, knows a lot about Washington’s methods and the functioning of human nature:
What happens when a former Obama speech writer and one who starts surfing together? Okay, if you are mine, and the superfans are my brother -in -law mat, what happens:

You learn that in our divided country, the “Common Ground” is even harder than you. But “neutral ground” is more important than your imagination.
For a long time, matte and I had nothing originally. He is an electrician who owns a pickup truck for work; I am a writer who owns two computer monitors for work. He listens to death metal; I listen to Stephen Sondyme.
Matt once threw his back training to be a mixed-martial arts fighter, and I once threw my back, picking up a bag of cat garbage.
But Matt is a surfer, and during epidemics, I also started surfing. We started spending time together in water, and even set our places on Ohu’s famous dangerous northern coast.
I imagined that our journey would reveal the general basis by listening to a lot about you these days.
No! We still have nothing basically normal.
We disagree about small items like music and food. We disagree about big goods, such as voting and vaccines.
But what we discovered is that our disagreement does not mean EverythingThe ocean became our neutral ground, a place where we can focus on anything other than our differences.
We learned from each other. We made each other’s horizons wider. we became friends. And that friendship has led to real discussion-that only arguments or arguments-on issues where we do not see the eyes to the eyes. This is more important than ever.

As my old boss used to say, we should “be able to disagree without disagreeing.”
Therefore, if there is someone in your life who you are afraid to talk with political goods – and these days, Everything Looks like political items – here is my advice: Find your neutral ground. Be open for unexpected friendship. Be prepared to learn from someone, even if it is someone you do not fully understand.
And also, if you are picking up a bag of cat garbage, lift it with your feet, not your back.
