The Department of Justice is investigating whether George Mason University (GMU) is engaged in the practices of hiring discriminatory work. According to the department, it focuses on determining whether GMU has violated the title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, which prevents employers from discriminating on the basis of breed, color, religion, sex or national origin.
“This is illegal and non-American who deny access to employment opportunities on the basis of race and sex,” a assistant attorney general Harmeet Dhilan The Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice said in a statement. “When employers expel eligible candidates from the recruitment process, they not only destroy confidence in our public institutions – they violate the law, and the Department of Justice will investigate accordingly.”

Investigation of Minnesota Hiring Practices in Latest Clash with Walz DOJ
In a letter to GMU Board of Visitors Rector Charles “Quly” Stimson, Dhillon wrote that the DOJ had “the reason for believing that the breed and sex was used as” the facilities hired “in the decisions that hired under the GRGRI Washington.
Dhillon said on July 23, 2020, Washington emailed a GMU faculty list, stating that he planned to create a process for “renewal promotion and tenure” that would benefit “color and women’s faculty”. In addition, Washington has allegedly stated in email that he aims to “develop a specific mechanism in the process of promotion and tenure that recognizes invisible and uncontrolled emotional labor that color people spend to learn, teach, find and work on the premises.”
“I have authorized a complete investigation to determine whether GMUs are engaged in a pattern or are given above as a practice of discrimination. We have not reached any conclusion about the subject of investigation,” Dhillon wrote.

A few weeks after the GMU investigation, Virginia President James Ryan resigned due to pressure from the Trump administration.
