New Delhi: With less than a year of time to meet its goal of zero dumps, the Union Government will start a special program for the treatment of 44% heritage waste in urban areas on August 15 within a year. The center will also provide encouragement to states and cities to set up more solid waste treatment plants.Speaking at a program of Swachh Survekshan, Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that treatment of heritage waste in big cities is a major challenge. “We will roll a special accelerated dumpie remade program for a year starting from August 15. This attention will be on reducing the waste of heritage and increasing waste processing capacity. Under this program, there will be encouragement to set up solid waste treatment plants, ”he said.Sources said that the details of this scheme are being worked out, the ministry is receiving response from the State Urban Development Ministers on Thursday.Khattar said that when the Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0 was launched in 2021, the government had targeted to free cities from all heritage landfills by 2026. About 50% of the land under heritage has been freed so far, Khattar said.
