Bradley Murdoch, the Australian man convicted the killing of British backpacker Peter Falconio in 2001.
The 67 -year -old Murdoch was serving life imprisonment in a prison in Ellis Springs in the northern region of Australia.
For alleged terminal cancer, they were being treated at Alice Springs Hospital in recent weeks.
The Northern region’s reform department told the BBC that Murdoch died on July 15 in the hospital’s subscription unit.
Officials said the death would be subject to investigation by the coroner of the northern region.
In 2005, Murdoch was convicted of killing Mr. Falconio, but never revealed the location of his body.
In July 2001, Mr. Falconio was shot dead at a remote stretch of the highway near the Bairo Creek, a northern region north of the Alice Springs in the north of the Alice Springs.
The 28 -year -old, at that time, was traveling with Australia with his girlfriend, Joan Les, from Britain.
Murdoch was also convicted of the kidnapping and attempt to attack Ms. Leis, who managed to escape in the outback scrub for several hours before being able to indicate to help.
Murdoch was 43 years old when he committed crimes.
The Ordal partially inspired the 2001 horror film Wolf Creek.
Last month, the police in Australia announced a new reward of $ 500,000 (£ 240,000) for information for the discovery of the remaining British backpackers.
Northern Territory Police Acting Commander Mark Grive said at a press conference in late June: “The police still hope that a person may be able to provide some important information for assistance in this discovery.”
“We recognize the passage of the time that has been transpired, but it is not late to reach him and start that conversation with the police,” Greve said.
He said that in that press conference, the police had created a “several approaches” for Murdoch in June, but said “Unfortunately … on all occasions he has chosen not to engage with the police”.
Acting Commander Grive said that he wanted to “try and at least bring some sliver of resolution to Peter’s family by bringing his remains home” – and he said that he had talked about the reward from the family.
