National selector Luke Wright said, “Liam Dawson is entitled to his call-up. He is excellent in the County Championship and continuously performs strong for Hampshire.”
While Dawson will have the same replacement for Bashir as a frontline spinner in XI, England, Jacob Bethel is also an alternative, primarily a batsman who bowls some left -arm spin.
However, England have favored a frontline spinner since becoming the captain of Ben Stokes in 2022. Only once, during the second Ashes test at Lord’s in 2023, has gone into a test without a spinner led by England Stokes.
Dawson also promotes England’s batting at number eight. His first -class batting average is from 35.29 opener Zak Croly.
Bashir’s injury gives Dawson an unexpected opportunity to suppress his claim as a test spinner, probably earning a place on this winter Ashes tour or even tells Bashir as the first choice.
Dawson won the first of its three Test caps against India in Chennai in 2016 and next year against South Africa at Trent Bridge. He has taken seven wickets and has also scored a half -century.
Meanwhile, India’s 22 -run defeat in the third Test of Jofra Archer won a winning return and the return of Gas Etkinson in the fitness of Hamstring means that fellow pace bowlers Jamie Overton and Sam Cook have been released from the squad.
Archer and Atkinson are in the form of frontline seamers with Chris Woakes, Bridon Cars and Josh tongue.
The fourth test in Manchester begins on 23 July. England is above 2–1 and is a win from winning his first win in the five-match series since 2018.
