Meta founder Mark Zuckerberg has said that social media giants will spend hundreds of billions of dollars on the construction of huge AI data centers in the US.
The first multi-gigawatt data center, called Prometheus, is expected to come online in 2026, Zuckerberg said.
He said that one of the sites would cover the size of manhattan size (59.1 sq km/22.8 sq mi).
Meta is called “Superintending” – has invested heavily in efforts to develop technology, stating that it can consider the most clever humans.
The company, which made most of its money from online advertising, produced more than $ 160BN in revenue in 2024.
In a post on its social media platforms, threads, Zuckerberg said that the meta was building several multi-gigawatt groups, and a cluster called Hyperian, could score up to five gigawatts over the years.
He said, “We are building many more Titan clusters. One of them includes a significant part of the footprint of Manhattan,” he said.
Prometheus will be built in New Albani, Ohio, while Hyperian will be built in Louisiana and is expected to be completely online by 2030, Zuckerberg said.
He said that Meta “would invest hundreds of billions of dollars … to make superintendents” and centers were given “names in the name of their scale and impact”.
Carl Fraree, a leading analyst of Cambrian AI Research, told BBC, “Apparently, Zuckerberg intends to spend his way on the top of AI Heip”.
“The talent he is hiring will have access to some of the world’s best AI hardware.”
Reuters News Agency reported that Mata shares were doing 1% more trading after the announcement. So far this year, stock has increased by more than 20%.
There are at least 10,000 data centers worldwide hosting the cloud -remote server that stores digital information – most of them are located in the US, followed by UK and Germany.
