New Delhi: A student accused of raping a woman in the premises of a top management school in Kolkata, according to a senior police officer, has accepted to buy sleeping bullets before the alleged attack and mix them in cold drinks and water.The officer told PTI, “The accused had admitted to buying sleeping pills and drinking cold drinks and drinking water, which she offered to the woman when she was there,” the officer told PTI. “But he could not clarify what the real intention is that after doing all these with a woman who went to her for counseling. He is not answering this question.”Police said that after consuming the drink, the woman went to a room in the boys’ hostels where the alleged rape took place. According to the investigators, the accused later called a friend and described the incident while walking in the verandah outside the room.The police have found discrepancies in the statement of the accused student and are investigating various aspects of the case, including the woman’s background, who claimed to be psychological. The official said, “She could not keep any documents supporting her ability as a psychologist. She has not revealed which institution she has participated.They are also investigating whether the woman’s family was under pressure to change her statement. “We are trying to find out if the family was under pressure … and whether there was any financial transaction behind this change of this statement,” the official said.The Kolkata Police has formed a nine -member Special Investigation Team (SIT) under the leadership of an Assistant Commissioner to investigate the case. The accused, Mahavir Toppanavar, also known as Parmanand Jain, was arrested on Friday night when the woman filed an FIR at Haridevpur police station. He has been sent to police custody till 19 July.Speaking to ANI, the police prosecutor said that the accused had claimed that the Act was consent, but medical evidence supported the woman’s account. Meanwhile, the mother of the accused said, “My son is innocent … he will never talk like that.”
