New Delhi: Delhi is a witness to a decline in overall crime during the first six months of 2025 as the Bharatiya Janata Party took over the administration. In 2024, a decrease of 8.38 percent in crime compared to the same period, including a remarkable 10 percent decrease in rape and poso cases.The BJP came to power in Delhi on 8 February 2025 and made a big comeback in the state after more than 26 years. The BJP won 48 out of 70 seats. According to PTI, citing Delhi Police data, between January 1 to June 30, 2025, the authorities registered 1,18,822 cases under the Indian Justice (BNS) and the Indian Penal Code (IPC), with a decrease in about 10,000 cases out of 1,29,693 cases registered in 2024.Serious crimes, including murder, rape, robbery and kidnapping, decreased by 13.13 percent compared to 2023 and 10.39 percent against 2024. However, in 2025, murder cases were increased from 241 to 250, while rape and sexual offenses showed a 10 percent decrease in children’s safety (POCSO) cases.The data revealed a decline in crimes against women, in which cases of tampering and Eve-tzing were reduced by about 11 percent and 12.5 percent respectively.Road crimes declined significantly, in which 3,381 to 2,503 cases decreased by 25.97 percent. Burglery cases decreased by 25.4 percent to 3,186 to 3,186, while motor vehicle theft decreased by 5.98 percent, from 18,626 to 17,512.Increased overall reduction in crime rates was attributed to systematic action against monitoring, strategic data-propelled patrolling, community engagement programs and systematic action against repeated criminals.
