The fire crew has urged the residents to close their windows as they deal with the fire at a recycling center on the Kent Industrial Estate.
Kent Fire and Rescue Service said that four fire engines were sent to the site at Clipper Close on Friday to fight for an explosion at the site.
The fire at the Medway City Estate was first reported immediately after 05:50 BST, a spokesman of the service.
A spokesperson of the Veeraidor, who operates the recycling center, stated that all employees were “safe and accounts”.
Director of Andy Wall, CC Supply and Workswear, a neighbor on Estate, said he could see a “black line” of smoke as he had gone to the site.
“I was worried that it was our building, but as we arrived here, we could see the smoke billing through gaps,” he said.
“All vehicles are covered in black dust. It is a bit worrisome, our building has a lot of stock.”
A spokesperson of the fire service service said: “People living or traveling near the region are being advised to close windows and doors due to the smoke coming from the site.
“Please share this information with any loved one in the area that can be affected but not access to the Internet.”
No more details were available due to the causes of fire or damage, a spokesman from the Viridor said.
Sisu Fitness co-owner Matt Grimshow, based on the Medway City Estate, said: “We came to know for the first time this morning when we saw the black smoke billing from the estate.
“We have to close all doors and windows in the gym. It’s a hot summer day so I worry that it is going to be hot later today.”
