“Everyone is safe. Thanks to La’s first respondents and people across our city who work to improve the LA every day,” Los Angles Mayor Karen Bass wrote on X.
Speaking at a news conference, Bass said that she had met some workers.
“All men who were in that tunnel: rescued, safe. We had an opportunity to talk with them. We had the opportunity to ensure that they were able to reach their family members,” Bass said. “His family members knew that they were safe. La City Council, Tim Mcuskar praised the workers for keeping a cool head.

The tunnel is being constructed almost completely under public right, 18 feet wide and will be 7 miles long to carry waste water treated from Los Angeles County to Pacific Ocean.
The $ 700 million project is being maintained by Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts.

The cause of collapse is under investigation. Officials said that the work would not resume until the project contractor assesses what happened and the site is not safe.
