Three -time tour de France winner Greg Lamond was awarded the Congress gold medal at US Capital on Wednesday morning.
Lamond became the first American to win the event in 1986, a few years later he moved to Europe to carry forward his dream of becoming a professional cyclist.
“Respect is more than my expectation, and I accept it with a deep sense of deep gratitude and humility …” said Lamond. “Cycling was an unusual game for a 14 -year -old child in 1976. In fact, I did not know that the game existed until a day, a bicycle race passed my house. After winning my first race, I became emotional with cycling, and as an American, I was confident that I was very possible if I did a lot of hard work, anything possible, anything possible.”

During his time in Europe, Lamond said that people called him “The American”, a surname he was “proud”.
“At one point, my parents also suggested that I have bowed into it.” Wear a shepherd hat and shoes, “he told me. I didn’t go far away, although I grew up in Reno, Nevada, and before riding horses I rushed to a bike. I used to remember only a blonde, blue child. As a collaborative, a friend, and a friend.”
Lamond then discussed what it means to be an American abroad, especially in a game that dominated their arrival by Europeans.
