A Instagram post by TV personality Jemma Collins, which has advertised a weight -loss drug and app, has been banned.
Star posted: “I am starting two sizes this year, thanks to Yazen’s weight loss app and medicine”.
It is illegal to advertise the prescription-cavalry weight loss drugs and was one of the nine advertisements banned in a crack by Ms. Colins’ Advertising Standards Authority (ASA).
Ms. Collins reported an ASA investigation that she admitted that her positions had promoted Yazn Vet-Loss service and app and would follow the guidance in future.
Yazen is a Swedish Digital Healthcare brand that offers users a doctor-convened weight-loss program that combines prescription drugs with lifestyle coaching.
Ms. Colins posted a video advertisement for the brand on her Instagram on 6 January this year.
Now in the banned advertisement, Ms. Colins describes how Yazen has helped her and said: “I am not asking anyone to go on this medicine, but it is prescribed on NHS.”
Although the advertisement did not name a specific weight loss drug, ASA said that it gave references that violate its code.
ASA said it sought advice from drugs and healthcare products regulatory agency, which expressed concern that consumers were likely to request a prescription weight loss drug.
Therefore, advertisement was considered as promoting those drugs to the public, violating the ASA rules.
Eight other advertisements banned to promote leaflets promoted only weight loss drugs to the public:
