The MPs have voted to return the football regime bill and establish an independent regulator to maintain men’s game in the top five divisions of England.
He voted from 415 to 98 to pass the bill in his third reading in the House of Commons, and is now ready to enact the law.
The law will provide powers to a body that is independent of government and football authorities.
The government has earlier stated that an independent regulator “will protect football clubs” by ensuring their financial stability.
Culture Secretary Lisa Nandi said, “I am proud to be part of the winning team that put our fans back on the pitch in the heart of the game, where they are.”
The bill was initially introduced by the then conservative government in March 2024, but failed to pass the Parliament before the general election was called in May. The new labor government re -introduced the bill in July 2024.
In a message to the fans before the vote, Nandi told the Commons: “We are doing this for you because for a very long time, you are considered as a nuisance in a game after being the best or the worst in a game that is great only because of you.
“It is for McClassfield, for Wigan, for Bari, for Bolton, for Derby, for reading, Shefield, on Wednesday, for Morcambe and for many, many more, many more, which have to bear the sufferings of the first to bear when they should have been kept earlier.”
Chhaya Minister, Lui French MP, for the game criticized the bill, saying, “Future conservative government will trigger the review of the Labor regulator as soon as possible”.
