A “unknown actor” created a signal account and used artificial intelligence for the secretary of the State Marco Rubio and the Government and Foreign Officers, according to the cable of a state department received by CBS News.
The cable was sent for “all diplomatic and consular positions”, and alerted them that the account was created in mid -June 2025 with the performance name [email protected].
“The person contacted at least five non-participant persons, including three foreign ministers, an American governor and an American member of the Congress,” cable said. “The actor left the sound mail on the signal for at least two targeted persons, and in an example, sent a text message inviting the person to communicate on the signal.”
In a statement, the State Department said that it is “aware of the incident and is currently investigating the matter.” The department said that “to prevent future incidents, the department takes steps to improve the cyber security currency of the department.”
