With a terrible start in summer in the rearview, the US Mains National Team had a chance to come up with the trophy, speed before a World Cup, and valuable Intel on some of its young players.
While manager Maurisio Pocheto obtained the elements of the latter two, a championship did not mean. Mexico captured its second-half Gold Cup title for its 10th overall crown, demolishing the United States 2–1. El tri In six years, the Americans were not defeated in a competitive match, the last win in the 2019 finals of the tournament.
Americans set up tone quickly when Chris Richards led a pinpoint free-kick by Sebastian Burhelter in the fourth minute. But after that, Mexico dominated. Supported by a deaf mob of over 70,000 fans at Houston’s NRG Stadium, El tri The match was fixed for the majority of the match. For most of the first half, anytime America showed a glimpse of hope or made something, Mexico quickly won the ball back.
In the 27th minute, Star Forward Raul Jimnez defeated Tim Rem, former team partner of Fulham and a shot exploded to equal the previous goalkeeper Matt Freeze. This was a goal that felt like a long time.

Later in the 77th minute, Edson Alvarez scored what a goal of winning the game from a free kick, which made mexico found behind a set in this gold cup for the fifth time.
Here are the takeaways from the match:
Set pieces make a difference
The USMNT has made a piece of set under the manager Mauricio Pchethino. And in the fourth minute, the Barhelter gave Richards a free-kick, whose header hit the US under the crossbar before jumping on the goal line to give a faster a lead.

It was similar to the winning goal, Richards scored a brutal free kick in the second group stage match of USMNT against Saudi Arabia a few weeks ago. And this is such a scenario that the squads are working continuously in this tournament. As we learned, USMNT is using a technique called Trackman to assist in preparing its set.And the team is working on these plays for at least 15-20 minutes from every gold cup game.
However, Mexico is also spending extra time on set pieces. And late in the second half, Alvarez made a free-kick header to give the final 2–1 scorer. Mexico also dominated the match when it came to the corner kick, taking 12 while the US had zero – although Mexico did not score a score.

No moral victory, but …
The American men’s team closed this heat for a near-affected start. The squad lost friendship continuously-the first time defeat, which was 4–0 4–0 by Switzerland a few days before the closure was closed.
Surprisingly those results were that star players like Christian police, Antony “JD” Robinson, Younus Musa and other main basis would not be part of the 26-player roster for various reasons. While that reality caused drama inside and outside the program, players called by Pochtino seized their opportunity and many people picked up their profiles and possibly put themselves into dispute for the roster spot in the next summer World Cup on the soil of the house.

The US won its Gold Cup group, in a quarterfinal penalty shootout win on Costa Rica, in a winning heroes, and showed their fight in a semi -final victory over Guatemala before proceeding in the final against rival Mexico. Eventually, a small and less experienced version of USMNT fell prey to a more quality rival in Mexico.
This was the last competitive match that would play before the US World Cup. Certainly Pocheto has learned a lot about the player Pool with him. Now, can some forms of this group be mixed with players who could not find the way to win and win the game in the next summer? that is the question.
What’s next: Police and stars back in September?
The United States will host the Republic of Korea and Japan, which will be held on September 6 in Harrison NJ and in a friendly pair in Columbus, Ohio respectively. Both opponents have already qualified for the 2026 World Cup.
This will be a compelling next camp for USMNT for several reasons, a conspiracy around one will invite Pchethino. Will the police, Robinson and Music come back with the team? What about Weston McCeni, Tim Wah and Gio Reyana, who were unable to participate in the Gold Cup, while their club teams competed in the FIFA Club World Cup together?

Following this previous month’s performance, it seems like a No-Brener that people such as Diego Luna and Malik Tilman, who have developed a chemistry, will be a brutal and frames. The same goes to Richards, Reem and Tyler Adams, who have increased to the challenge to lead the group. And who makes the team thinking about what the World Cup is thinking about their roster.
As a reminder, because the US is co-holding the World Cup with Canada and Mexico, it is not to undergo qualifying for the tournament. The matchup in September should serve USMNT, as both opponents will preview various styles, which may be the squad in the next summer.
