Officials said many suspects were in custody after a police officer was injured in an immigration and customs enforcement facility in Alvardo, Texas over the fourth night of July.
Prior to 11 pm, the Alvarado Police Department said it was called to a suspect’s report, outside the Ice Prereland Detention Facility, in 1200 blocks of sunflower lane. When the officer arrived, he saw a person who was carrying a gun, according to a news release.
The Alvarado police said that when one of the first responding officers tried to join the person, an unknown number of suspects set fire. Police said that at least one bullet hit an officer in the neck, the police said.
The Alvarado police said that the injured officer was rushed to a Fort Worth Hospital, was treated and later released.
According to the Alvarado police, several armed suspects were taken into custody after trying to escape from the scene with the help of local agencies including Johnson County Sheriff Office.
At this time, the names of the suspects have not been released, and the police is investigating the purpose.
A federal law enforcement source told CBS News on Saturday that the local police arrested eight people. The official said that some of them were wearing body armor.
The source told CBS News that initial reports indicate that more than a dozen masked men dressed in black arrived late Friday night in the Preyland ice Detention Facility and ruined vehicles and security cameras in parking.
