Washington – A Maryland person has been accused of trying to bring a “ghost gun” to a house office building last week, CBS News has learned, the latest arrests related to firearms on Capital Hill.
Jason White, 35, allegedly tried to bring a gun through a security post at the cannon house office building after 8:30 am on June 24. Anginastra was discovered when the White placed his bag through a metal detector at an entrance of the building, according to the police.
The House was in session at that time, MPs and employees arrived for a series of committee hearing at the Capital Complex.
According to an affidavit shared with CBS News, “There was no serial number anywhere on firearms.” The filing stated that its barrel length was less than 12 inches and “completely functional”. Ghost guns It is usually made of kits and can be assembled at home, making them unattainable by law enforcement.
A police officer told CBS News that White was arrested and told the officials that he had forgotten that there was a gun in his bag.
The affidavit states that White has not been licensed to carry guns in Washington, DC, and is a time ending permit for a gun in Maryland. White is facing criminal allegations of hooliganism. His lawyer refused to comment to CBS News.
A CBS News review of police records shows that there have been more than 20 arrests for the occupation of illegal firearms on Capital Hill so far this year. There were 18 such arrests in all of 2023.
