More than 85 million years ago, an ancestor with a small bodied ancestor of the Tirenosaurus Rex wandered into the Mongolia grounds. The identity of dinosaurs was unknown – so far.
In A search Published on Wednesday in Nature, scientists have described the identity of a new Tiranosoroid called Khanhulu Mongolinesis. Apex hunters, including Tea. RexFinally originated from these small bodies tirenosoroids, the researchers of the study said.
The University of Calgary and the co-writer of the study told CBS News, “This species, khanuulu, small and first forms and large top hunter are the missing link between Tirenosaurus,” Pelionela Zelenteski, a professor and co-author of the University of Calgary, described CBS News.

Zalenitsky said that Khanhulu’s skeleton was discovered in Mongolia in the Gobi Desert in 1972 or 1973, but was not scientifically studied until a few years later. The remains were identified by Mongolian peliyantologist Altanegral Pere as another unclear species as Electrosaurus Olsony. After wrong, the bones became part of a museum collection and were relatively untouched for nearly 50 years.
The study found that referred to as Tyranosoroids of the middle-grain, these small-six hunting evolutionary intermediates. During the period when Khanhulu lived in Mongolia, Tyranosaurus started growing up and Apex began to take the characteristics of predators. Due to fragmented fossil residues, not much is known about these elusive tirenosoroids, but researchers said that the dinosaur weighs about 1,700 pounds. He was one of the large predators in the ecosystem at that time.
“This is essentially the immediate ancestor of the Tiranosor family,” said Zelenitsky.
Search for a surprise
The Calgary PostDorle Scholar University and the co-author of the study, Jredd Voris, traveled to Mongolia a few years ago, so that the bones of various oppressors could be researched and in this process, they later reach to determine what they will later determine what they will determine that Khankuluuu is.
Voris thought the remains could be somewhat important, as they often pop up the contexts of samples, but when they started investigating bones, they knew that it could be something special. While studying the individual characteristics of bones, one of the things he paid attention was that Khanhulu’s teeth could not crush the bone, Voris said, a defined characteristic of the big top hunter tirenosaurus.
Voris said, “This animal had characteristics that we had never seen in our prestigious atrocities before.”
He read Zelenitsky from Mongolia that he “thought it could be a new species”. Zalenitsky said he replied, “I said, it is very good, keep looking at it so that we can ensure that it is a new species.”

Two pellynteologists are not new to provoke scientific discoveries – they have many. In 2023Zelenitsky was part of a team that identified a tirenosaurus fossil with food in his stomach, and Voris Discovered A new species of Tyrannosaurid dinosaurs, ThanaTotherists Degrutoram – translates into the name “Death of Death”.
“Retrieting the family history of Tirenosourse”
These Asian Tyranosoroids eventually crossed in North America using a northern land bridge between Alaska and Siberia, said Zelenitski. Dinosaurs used these land bridges, which appeared in time from time to time in the last 100 million years, to travel between Asia and North America.
And from this, these tyrannosauroids developed and Apex converted to predators. Tea. Rex is Deadly land hunter Never live, and has long been an attraction with dinosaurs that have become extinct for about 66 million years.

The co-writer of the study said that the new identity shows that there are still major discoveries in science. “In fact, as a new species discovered actually began, with us ended with a re -writing of a family history of Tyranosaurus,” Zalenitsky said.
