Anas Sarwar has described an allegation that a former Scottish labor MSP considered a secret camera “deeply upset and shocking” in a Holiroad toilet.
Colin Smith, 52, is facing a criminal charge on the claim, which he refuses.
The South Scotland MSP, which has been suspended by labor, was lodged separately on the occupation of children’s porn images last month.
He is due to the subsequent appearance in the Damfrees Sheriff Court at the later date.
Speaking at a news conference in Glasgow, Sarwar described the allegations against Smith “as a deeply disturbed and shocking for all of us and for parliamentary property.
The Scottish labor leader said that he did not know about any concern about Smith’s behavior before his arrest, but that labor suspended him as soon as it was known about the “severity of allegations”.
Sarwar told reporters that he would like to “believe” toilets in the Scottish Parliament, saying that “everyone is entitled to that basic dignity”.
However, he said that there was a question for Holiroad officials.
Smith, now an independent MSP, has played several frontbench roles with Scottish Labor and was the first party general secretary.
SNP MSP Mitchell Thomson has filed a proposal to remove him from his role as the Convenor of the Economy and Fair Working Committee of the Scottish Parliament.
Sarwar said that it was “very clear” that the committee should choose a new convenor.
Earlier, the first minister John Swine said he was “frightened” from the allegations against Smith.
He said: “I know that Parliament must be working very hard to assure those people who will be deeply worried as I am.”
‘Secret Equipment’
Sunday mail has told At least five MSPs, one journalist and several staff members have been contacted by the police on alleged secret toilet recording in Holiroad.
On August 5, Smith was charged in the possession of abusive images after searching for his home in Damfrees.
The news was not public till 20 August, when it was reported in the daily record.
The MSP had said at the time that he was “fully co-operating” with investigation.
The parliamentary pass of Smith was canceled last Thursday, on the same day it was reported that he had allegedly hidden a secret camera in a Holiroad toilet.
He denied the allegation and criticized the police Scotland for releasing details of his investigation.
The Scottish Parliament confirmed that the police had searched all toilets and changing rooms, but no “secret recording devices” were found.
Smith, who previously worked as a modern study teacher and has a wife and two daughters, can still contribute to the debate and vote from a distance when Parliament returns from holiday this week.
It is understood that the Scottish labor became aware of serious allegations on August 18 and suspended it that day.
The Scottish Parliament said it was stated on August 8 that the police was probably investigating images taken in Holiroad, but the officials did not say who their investigation was related to. Parliament said on Monday that it was still the case.
The Parliament said that it was discovered that Smith was accused in the possession of indecent images of children when the report was reported in the media on 20 August.
The Scottish Parliament corporate body did not suspend it until eight days later.
According to a Holiroad spokesperson, “recommendations from officials” were suspended on the basis of indecent images.
He said: “Its decision was based on a full risk evaluation and balance of a series of duties and responsibilities placed on it.”

This whole story, and associated fall out, has shaken them on the basis of Holiroad.
It is shocking enough that a long -term MSP is facing such serious allegations.
But it is alleged that a secret camera can be kept in Holiroad toilet, shocked to those working in Parliament.
This is beyond one of the MPs facing serious allegations. It is that many building users are questioning whether they are stuck in all this.
The officials of the Scottish Parliament are in pain to assure Holiroad pass holders that they are taking their safety incredibly seriously.
But there is still a feeling of mistrust.
