New Delhi: The National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) has announced a “final opportunity” under the new integrated Teacher Education Program (ITEP) of its 2014 rules now under-OM-OM-Adendix-13 to “last opportunity” for Teacher Education Institutions (TEI), a four-year integrated BA-bed, BSC-bed, and BCom-bed programs.
The council will open its online portal in mid-September, so that institutions will allow the appointment to apply AFRESH for infection in ITEP, which will submit relevant documents, including evidence of being a multi-disciplinary institution.
The rules under Appendix -13 of NCTE Regulations, 2014, which allowed standalone colleges to run four -year integrated bed courses, were left in October 2021. Institutions were directed to transfer to the new ITEP under 2021 regulations, with an infection deadline to 2025–26. In July 2025, NCTE extended the deadline to one year, allowing admission to 2025–26 under older courses.
According to the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, NCTE has directed the Standalone Teacher Education Institutions (TEI), which only provides teacher education courses, which are to convert to multi -scope higher education institutions (HEI).
In the guidelines issued on 15 May, NCTE outlined the three routes for Standalone TII to expand beyond its single-discipline position and integrate with wider academic currents: start at least two new graduate programs; Merge with an existing multidisciplinary higher education institution (Hei); Or cooperate with one within a radius of 10 km. Around 15,000 across India, all standalone TEIs should become a multi -script hei as imagination in NEP 2020 by 2030.
“We offer UG and PG courses in Arts, Science, Commerce, Journalism and Pharmacy and other commercial courses at SD College, Barnala has been running since 1956 and offers BED and M.Ed courses on our campus under SD College of Education. In its 67th General Body Meeting on July 28, 2025, NCTE decided to give “final opportunity” to all TIIs running four years integrated BA-bed and BSC-bed programs-the earlier applications were rejected-to re-apply for infection in ITEP.
“Therefore, all the concerned institutions are informed by it and are advised to be in readiness to apply AFRESH with all the necessary relevant letters or documents, including evidence of being a multi-disciplinary institution, NC A notice issued by Mishra on 25 August said. The notice was uploaded on the NCTE website on Saturday.
NCTE has clarified that students will not be allowed to accept in BA-bed, BSC-Bed and BCom-Bed programs after the new academic session starts in 2026-27.
The Itep launched in 2023-24 at 57 Teis has been expanded with 19 central universities, 21 state universities, 7 National Institute of Technology (NITs), 3 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and in 14 colleges, by 2025-26, by the National Testing Agency (NTA) admission through the national level entrance examination conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). In its draft NCTE (recognition criteria and procedure) Regulations, in 2025, the council also announced four special Itep programs-Itep Yoga, Physical Education, Sanskrit Education and Art Education-which would be introduced from the 2026-27 academic session, pending approval of the draft rules.
