Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday met former Japanese premiere Fumio Kishida and Yoshihide Suga in Tokyo and discussed bilateral relations with leaders who contributed to having a close relationship with India.
Modi and Kishida reviewed progress in areas such as trade, important technologies and human resource dynamics, and a social media post in the Prime Minister’s office stated that the ability to cooperate in futuristic sectors such as semiconductors.
Suga, who is now the president of the Japan-India Association, and Modi discussed strengthening bilateral cooperation in business, investment, technology and AI.
Modi also met Speaker Fukushiro Nukaga and a delegation of MPs and discussed the strengthening of parliamentary exchange, cultural relations and human resource development. He also focused on cooperation in major sectors like economy, health, science and technology.
Later, Modi was presented a Daruma doll by Reverend Sishhi Hiros, the chief priest of the Shorinjan Daruma-Ji temple in Takasaki-Gunma. The gesture reflected the close civilization and spiritual relations between India and Japan, the Ministry of External Affairs said.
Daruma doll is considered a good fortune attraction in Japanese culture. The city of Takasaki in Gunma province is the birthplace of these dolls. The Daruma tradition in Japan is based on the heritage of Bodhidharma, an Indian monk of Kanchipuram, known as Daruma Maid in Japan and said that she traveled to the country over 1,000 years ago.
