New Delhi: Officials said on Friday that poll officials in Bihar have issued notices to about three lakh voters with “suspected citizenship”.
Three lakh voters are among the 7.24 crore people who have found their name in the electoral role published on 1 August as part of the special intensive amendment (SIR) of the voter list in Bihar.
The officials, citing the ground report, said that those notices are suspected of being from Bangladesh, Nepal, Myanmar and even Afghanistan.
During the verification of documents, discrepancies were noted by the Election Registration Officers (EROS).
After this, the field was questioned and notices were issued, he said.
Notices were issued by Aeros in Eastern Champaran, West Champaran, Madhubani, Kingj, Purnia, Katihar, Araria and Supaul.
An Election Commission (EC) official said, “These were the districts from where most of these cases were identified.”
According to the poll panel, 99.11 percent of the 7.24 crore voters of the state have submitted their documents for verification so far.
Bihar’s last voter list, where assembly elections can be held in November, will be published on 30 September.
The Supreme Court has now asked the Poll Authority to accept the Aadhaar or 11 listed documents of the people who included in the voter list.
The EC has asked the Supreme Court to re-prepare the trust in the poll-bound Bihar to exclude the head of the electoral role.
