Unlike the 70-hour workweek pitch of the founder Narayan Murthy, Infosys is asking its employees to maintain a ‘work-life balance’, which warns them against overtime work.
In an internal expedition, the Bangalore-facilitated company sent emails personally, urged them to stick regularly for working hours, especially during a distance setup.
An employee told The Economic Times, “We should work for 9.15 hours a day a day, and if we overshoot it while working away, it inspires a trigger,” an employee told The Economic Times. Those receiving this personal mail are also being told that their last month average working hours were higher than the company’s standard limit.
HR monitors an employee’s working hours and sends an email to the person if he spends more time while working from home in a interval of one month.
Emails allegedly remind employees to maintain their health care and maintain a work-life balance to ensure their effectiveness and success at work in a long time. “When we appreciate your commitment, we also believe that maintaining a healthy work-life balance is important for both your good and long-term professional success,” the email sent by HR was quoted by ET.
Email said, “We understand that the demand and deadline of work can sometimes reach for a long time. However, it is important to maintain a balanced work-life schedule to increase productivity and overall happiness,” Email said.
“Take regular brakes during your workday; Tell your manager if you are feeling overwhelmed or needs support with reviewing the priorities. Talk to your manager to hand over the tasks or talk about re -rebuilding some responsibilities, whenever possible, take time to reduce the interactions related to the work,” Read further.
Infosys rolled out this new initiative after adopting the hybrid work model. The company introduced the return-to-office policy on November 20, 2023 with around 323,500 employees. In this policy, employees require at least 10 days a month to work from the office.
Since then, HR teams have been regularizing the time spent by each employee at office work while working from home.
70 -hour workweight pitch of Narayan Murthy
This entire initiative is contrary to what co-founder Narayan Murthy stood for last year. He advocated a 70 -hour workwack, clarifying that the youth need to understand that “we have to work hard and work towards making India number one”.
Speaking at the centenary celebrations of the Indian Chamber of Commerce in Kolkata last year, Murthy allegedly said, “In Infosys, I said that we will go to the best and compare ourselves with the best global companies. Once we can compare ourselves with the best global companies, I can do a lot to do a lot to do a lot of work, who will work hard?”
Later, Murthy also said that he did not believe in the concept of “work-life balance”, advocating sacrifices and stringent efforts.
Earlier in January this year, he released an explanation on his 70 -hour workwack comment and said that his program was “his personal choice”, saying that it should not be forced to anyone.
Infosys co-founder is reportedly told, “There is no one you should do this, you should not do so.”
Since then, there has been a debate on long -term work hours and later impact on the health conditions of the employees.
