Chandigarh, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Friday formed a high-power committee involving three top officials of the state to monitor relief and rescue operations in flood affected districts of the state.
Mann presided over a meeting to review the flood situation as many districts continue to reel under serious influence.
He said that the committee involving senior officials of Revenue, Water Resources and Food and Civil Supplies Departments will be posted in Amritsar and other affected districts.
He asked the deputy commissioners and other officials to ensure that the instructions of this panel have been implemented honestly to provide relief to the people.
The CM said that the heavy flow of water from the hilly areas has caused havoc for the state, saying that the Ravi River has received 14.11 lakh cusecs of water till date.
Mann said that his government has already written to Haryana and Rajasthan to draw maximum water from rivers.
The worst villages of the flood were in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Fazilka, Kapurthala, Taran Taran, Ferozepur, Hoshirpur and Amritsar districts.
According to an official statement, Bhagwant Mann has also asked the Chief Secretary that to ensure relief and rescue operations are done effectively to visit flood-rage.
Mann said that the Indian Army and 17 NDRF teams have already been deployed in the affected districts for rescue operations.
During the meeting, Mann was informed by the authorities that there are constant on-round operations to vacate people trapped in the floods, assess the damage and check the outbreak of the disease.
Mann directed that violations with flood rivers should be plugged and medical teams should provide preventive care against diseases in every village.
Mann also said that water tankers should be provided in innocent villages to provide clean and potable drinking water, ration kits and other essential items.
Maan further stated that for the treatment and vaccination of affected cattle, veterinary teams should also be deployed in large numbers, providing for animals and feed/fodder.
