New Delhi: Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri said on Friday that India and Japan have initiated an economic security initiative to strengthen the supply chain flexibility and cooperation in major areas. The five priority fields identified under the initiative are semiconductors, important minerals, pharmaceuticals, information and communication technology (especially telecommunications), and clean energy.Misri was addressing a media briefing on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s two-day visit to Japan, highlighting the major results of the 15th India-Japan annual summit and the growing strategic partnership between the two countries.“India and Japan launched an economic security initiative to promote supply chain flexibility in strategic fields such as semiconductors, clean energy, telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, new and emerging technologies like new and emerging technologies.”Here the major results of briefing are:Japan-India Artificial Intelligence Initiative:Misri highlighted that India and Japan have started the Japan-India Artificial Intelligence initiative to strengthen bilateral cooperation in AI technologies. The purpose of the initiative is to increase cooperation on large language models, data centers and AI regime. It is expected to run innovation and research between the two countries. PM Modi also invited Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba to India’s AI Impact Summit, which is scheduled for February 2026, which highlights the strategic importance of AI in changing societies and economies.“We are living in the era of artificial intelligence, and the two leaders admitted that AI is a revolutionary technology that is ready to change our society and economies. The initiative will strengthen the cooperation between India and Japan on AI, ”said Egypt.Strengthen people and commercial links from people:On trade cooperation, the two leaders decided to launch the Bharat Kansai Business Forum and India Kyushu Business Forum to promote ground level trade and investment.Misri further explained people’s exchange scheme to ambitious people. “Both countries have set an aspiring target of exchange of more than 500,000 personnel in both directions in the next five years, including 50,000 skilled personnel and potential talent from India to Japan, to create a new wave of people between India and Japan,” PM Modi welcomed in Tokyo; India-Japan Economic Forum:The Foreign Secretary said that PM Modi reached Tokyo on Friday and was warmly welcomed by the Indian community in the city as well as the people of Japan.He and Japanese PM Ishiba are about to travel to Sendai in Miagi province tomorrow. During the visit, PM Modi will also visit the Tokyo Electron factory to inspect advanced manufacturing and development in technology.Strategic and Safety Cooperation:Addressing security issues, Misri said, “PM Shigeru Ishiba confirmed that Japan cross border stands with India on the issue of terrorism.” The two leaders also emphasized on emerging technologies, clean energy and cooperation in important areas, which aims to strengthen long -term economic and strategic flexibility.Other major results of the summit:
