Last year, a teacher was attacked by a student who stabbed triple stabbing at a school, saying she could “never return” at work.
Liz Hopkin, fellow teacher Fiona Eliias and a disciple, stabbed during Brechime Ysgol Dyffryn Aman on 24 April 2024 at Carmarthayire,
The girl, who was 13 years old at that time and could not be named, Earlier this year was sentenced to 15 years. When he was found guilty of attempt to murder.
In her first interview after the attack, Ms. Hopkin recalled the teenager who stabbed her colleague with a knife, as she shouted “I am Going to Kill You”.
“It’s been a long time, but it is still very vivid in my head,” Ms. Hopkin told BBC Wales.
“This was the intention. At that time Fiona was on his own, the result would be very different.
“She hit me in the leg and then she came to me and stabbed me in the neck and then twice in the back.”
The girl told fellow students in the morning of the attack that she would knive Ms. Eliias.
Ms. Hopkin said that she did not know the student and learned her name only after the attack.
“There were a lot of children and I just wanted to keep them safe,” she said.
“I thought it was the end, really. I haven’t gone back to work. I can never imagine doing that work, I can’t imagine going to a school, I can’t go from the front of school.
“I think I have got a lot, but everything stopped that day.”
Earlier this year, the trial in Swansey Crown Court heard that the girl would take a knife to school every day.
A Multi-agency review Was published On Wednesday, a new details were given about how the teenager was fascinated by war and weapons.,
The report suggested that the girl had childhood and mental health challenges.
Writer, Gladis Rhodes White made 11 recommendations to the agencies and said that the girl would benefit from the “targeted help” if the information was “fully shared and evaluated”.
Ms. Hopkin said that she welcomed the report but she was still concerned.
“Recommendations and whatever has come in that report is nothing new,” he said.
“Thinking that there were times, where perhaps, especially people or agencies could discuss or share this information and work together, it could make a big difference.
“What will help if people take the report seriously and simply do not give it shelter.
“The events that are happening are the tip of the iceberg. There is not enough action.
“I want the Welsh government to see why these situations happen more deeply. Nothing has changed.”
Their calls have been echoed by unions and politicians, including Plaid Cymru Seneded Member – and Ysgol Dyffryn Aman – Pupils of Adam Price, who called the Welsh government to implement a policy response.
“Two of the two most striking things require an overhaul of ways to share information between agencies, if that JIQSAW was added, can it help prevent the incident from happening?,” Sri Price said.
“We have a summit, but what we have not yet seen is a vision and a way, which implements practical concrete policy changes in an entire host of lessons and recommendations learned in this report, but also gives insight by teaching unions and others.
“Because my fear is that if it does not, we can do it, and perhaps looking at other tragedies in the future that can be even more serious.”
In a joint statement, the Carmarthire Council, YSGOL DYFFRYN AMAN, Dyfed-Powys Police and Hywel DDA Health Board Hedtekar said “he accepts” the challenging and difficult situations faced by the victims and the entire community after the incident “.
“We have received an independent report regarding the Multi-agency Professional Forum (MAPF), and will work with all partners to develop an action plan to address its recommendations.
“It is not normal to publish such reviews, or independently for such reviews, it was agreed to the Central and West Wales and all possible efforts have been made to learn from these incidents to publish reports from the agencies involved in the MAPF for the safety of the children’s board and have been made to do so in a transit and open manner.”
Welsh government said: “This important lesson is learned from this sad and shocking event to ensure that such incidents happen again.
“It is clear that the school did everything in response to the incident.”
It said that it was working with partners “to develop more effective, multi-agency approach to address behavior issues in schools”.
