The central government has increased the exemption of import duty on cotton till 31 December for relief to the country’s apparel industry, which has barely killed with 50 percent tariff on goods going to the United States.
The first exemption of import duties on cotton was announced in a government order in late August 18. India had exempted import duties on cotton by 30 September.
A Press India Bureau (PIB) said on Thursday that the discount is being extended to “increase the availability of cotton for the Indian textile sector” by 31 December.
PIB release read,
“To support further exporters, the central government has decided to expand the import duty exemption on cotton (HS5201) from 30 September 2025 to 31 December 2025,” it is said.
