The importance of Wood for England to win the Ashes for the first time since 2015 cannot be overstated.
They want a group of bowlers capable of producing high speeds in Australia and Wood, who have suffered several injuries throughout their career, the fastest of their options, including Jofra Archer, Josh Tongu, Bridan Cars and Gas Atkinson.
Should Chris Woakes fail or be left to overcome his shoulder injury, Wood England squad can also have the only frontline bowler who has played a test in Australia. He took 17 wickets in four Tests on 2021–22 tour, including nine in the fifth Test in Hobart.
Durham left three county championship matches this season – against Essex from 8 September, Vestershair’s house on 15 September and Yorkshire on 24 September.
“I will try and play one or two of them,” Wood said.
“I have been well seen and very cautious.
“I give importance to it because they have got this last game where they want I go to Australia.
“But I said [England coach Brendon McCullum] Baz McCullum I can’t bowl on the net for just four months, I will go crazy.
“There is a bowling camp in Lafboro in a tent – after being ready for Perth is being noted – then I will quickly go with bowlers near Perth.
“We will arrive about a week ago to prepare and get acclimatized.”
Ashes begins in Perth on 21 November.
