Confirmation follows the lunar comments and aligns with the 12th of Rabi al -Avwal on the Islamic calendar.
Private sector holiday confirmed for 5 September
The Ministry of Human Resources and Ameratization (Mahee) has announced that Friday, September 5, 2025, will be a public holiday for private sector workers in the United Arab Emirates. This date matches the 12th of Rabi al -Avwal, which is a day of deep religious significance, marking the birth of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), which is celebrated annually in the Muslim world.The holiday was confirmed as per the official holiday approved program of the UAE cabinet. While the expected date was previously estimated, it was officially determined only through the Moon Vision Protocol of the Islamic Month of Rabi al Avwal.On Saturday, August 23, 2025, the International Astronomy Center located in the United Arab Emirates reported that Crescent Moon – which indicates the onset of Rabi al -Avwal – was not seen anywhere in the Arab world. Based on this observation, the first day of Rabi al -Avwal began a day later, the 12th position of the month on Friday, 5 September.The Islamic calendar follows a lunar system, so religious events are confirmed only after the sight of the verified moon. With this date many countries have aligned with this date, which confirms a shared observation.Prophet’s birthday, known in Arabic Mawlid al-NabaviSpecial prayers on the life and teachings of the Prophet are marked by Muslims through religious lectures and reflections. Although it is a festive day for many people, it is also seen as a time for spiritual reflection and kindness functions.As the holiday occurs on a Friday, which is part of the weekend of the UAE, many employees can benefit from a long weekend, until Sunday. Private companies need to follow the official holiday notice, which are paid to employees according to the UAE labor regulations.
