Child sexual abuse victims have begged Elon Musk to prevent the images of their misconduct being posted on their social media platform X.
“Hearing that my misuse – and so many others misuse – is still being operated and amended here,” Zora “(not his real name) who lives in the United States and was abused more than 20 years ago.
“Every time a hair sells or shares the abuse material, they directly fuel the original, frightening misuse.”
The X says that it has “zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material” and dealing with children who exploit children is “a highest priority”.
The BBC found the images of Zora while checking the global trade of child sexual abuse materials by the Global Child Safety Institute, Childlight for a price of billions of dollars.
The material was between thousands of identical photos and a cash of videos being offered for sale on an X account. We came into contact with the trader through the messaging app Telegram, and it took us to a bank account connected to a person in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Zora was first abused by a family member. A collection of images of their misuse is infamous among the pedophiles that gather and trade such materials. Many other victims have to face the same situation, as images of misuse are still circulating today.
Zora is angry that business continues even today.
“My body is not an object. It has never been, and it will never happen,” she says.
“People who distribute this material are not inactive, they are complex criminals.”
X account track
The images of Zora’s misuse were originally available only on the so -called dark web, but now they have to live with the reality that the link is being openly promoted on X.
Social media platforms are trying to get rid of their platforms of illegal materials, but the scale of the problem is huge.
Last year, the US National Center for Missing and Exloid Children (NCMEC), received more than 20 million mandatory reports from technical companies about the incidents of child sexual abuse material (CSAM) – illegal pictures and videos on their platforms.
The NCMEC tries to identify victims and criminals, the organization then contacts law enforcement.
We contacted the “hecticist” group benami, whose members are trying to compete in the images of child abuse on X. One of them told us that the situation was as bad as usual.
He told us about the same account on X. It used a picture of a real child’s head and shoulders as its avatar. There was nothing obscene about it.
But the word and emoji in the account bio made it clear that the owner was selling hair sexual abuse materials and an account link on the messaging app Telegram.
The trader appeared located in Indonesia and was offering a collection of video files of “VIP package”, images and misconduct for sale to pedophiles worldwide.
Anam worker was working on X to report several accounts of this merchant, so he could be removed by the platform’s moderation system. But every time an account was removed, he told us, another new will change it.
The businessman was overseeing more than 100 identical accounts. The worker told us that when he contacted the merchant directly using Telegram, the businessman replied that he had thousands of videos and pictures for sale.
“I have a child. Children young 7-12”, he wrote in messages to the worker seen by the BBC. He also stated that some materials showed child rape.
We were in touch with the businessman ourselves.
He provided links to the samples of the material, which we did not see or seen. Instead, we contacted the Canadian Center for Child Protection (CCCP) experts in Vinnipag – who work with law enforcement and are legally allowed to see such materials.
Lloyd Richardson, director of CCCP technology, said, “Telegram account, for a better duration, was a tastor pack – essentially a collage of material that he had made available to all different victims.” “When we saw all the different images in the collage, I would say that there were thousands of people.”
Zora had images in the files.
His insult in the US was prosecuted several years ago and imprisoned, but not before that the footage of misconduct was already shared and sold worldwide.
Zora told us: “I have tried to overcome my past for years and have not allowed it to determine their future, but criminals and dunkers still have a way to see this dirt.”
As she grew older, the stallers exposed, contacted and threatened her online. She says that she feels “fed up on a crime that looted me since childhood”.
Find the trader
To identify the merchant selling Zora’s pictures, we introduced as a buyer.
The businessman sent us his bank information and an online payment account, both of both were listed as the same name account holder.
The unnamed worker had discovered that the name was also associated with two money transfer and another bank account.
We tracked a person with the same name on which the accounts were listed on a address on the outskirts of the Indonesian capital Jakarta.
A manufacturer working in the city for the BBC World Service went to the address and faced a person on the campus, who was presented with evidence, he said he was surprised.
“I don’t know anything about this,” he said.
The person confirmed that the bank was one of the accounts and said that it was designed for single hostage transactions. He said that he had not used the account since then and he would contact his bank to find out what happened. He denied knowledge of other bank accounts or money transfer.
We certainly cannot know what, and to what extent, he can join and as a result we are not giving his name.
The way Zora’s images were being marketed is a method used by hundreds of traders worldwide, found in our investigation.
Use various hashtags familiar with post pedophiles on x. Images visible on the stage are often taken from known hair abuse images, but can be cropped so they are not vulgar.
Elon Musk said that the removal of child sexual abuse material was his “top priority”, when he handled X, was known as Twitter, in 2022.
In general, social media platforms, not only X, can do a lot to prevent criminals from posting repeatedly, call Lloyd Richardson from CCCP.
“It’s great that we can send a takedown notice [to social media platforms]And they remove the account, but it is bare minimum. ,
The problem is that users can return to platforms with a new account in a few days, they say.
X told us that it has “zero tolerance” for child sexual abuse. “We constantly invest in advanced identity so that we can take rapid action against materials and accounts violating our rules,” said a spokesman.
The forum told us that it works closely with the “National Center for missing and exploited children (NCMEC) and supports law enforcement efforts to prosecute these heinous crimes”.
Telegram said: “All channels have been moderated, and more than 565,000 groups and channels related to the spread of CSAM have been banned in 2025 so far.”
The Manch said that it has more than a thousand moderators working on this issue.
“Telegram constantly monitors public content on the platform and can be reported or reported before reaching users,” said a spokesman.
When we told Zora that his pictures were being traded using X, he had this message for the platform owner, Elon Musk: “Our misuse is being shared, business is being done, and is being sold on the app given by you. If you will work without any hiccups to protect your children, then I ask you to do so for the other people, we will do so for the same time. Is.”
