US men’s team Stock Watch: What’s next for Reyana, Police, Sergeant?

The biggest development for the U.S. men’s national team this past week came off the field.

On Saturday, Gio Reyna finally left German club Borussia Dortmund after six years and signed with rivals Borussia Mönchengladbach. It was a desperately needed change in scenery for the former prodigy to have any hope of cracking USMNT’s 2026 FIFA World Cup roster next June.

Injuries and coaching decisions limited the 22-year-old Reyna to just 627 minutes logged across all competitions last season (and only 592 in 2023-24). He still needs to play, obviously, and it’s fair to wonder if he will with veterans Franck Honorat, Robin Hack and Kevin Stöger entrenched as starting attackers in ‘Gladbach manager Gerardo Seoane’s 4-2-3-1 formation. 

For now, though, Reyna has what he’s long needed most: a fresh start. And he’ll have his USMNT teammate and childhood friend Joe Scally at Gladbach as well. (More on Scally later.) 

But Reyna’s move surely comes too late for him to be considered for the USMNT’s upcoming September games. On Tuesday, manager Mauricio Pochettino will announce his first squad since an MLS-heavy USMNT lost the Concacaf Gold Cup final to rival Mexico back on July 6. 

The Americans will face South Korea and Japan in friendly games on Sept. 6 in New Jersey and three days later in Columbus, Ohio. Here’s a quick snapshot of the player pool ahead of the September roster drop. 

Forwards

Stock Up: Pulisic and Sargent back in the mix?

After a drama-filled summer, Christian Pulisic had a night to forget Saturday as seven-time European champs AC Milan lost its Serie A opener at home to newly promoted Cremonese. But Pulisic did score in last week’s Coppa Italia victory over Bari to star his club campaign on the right foot.

The last two weeks probably won’t come into Pochettino’s decision-making when it comes to including Pulisic for September. After the USMNT’s best player skipped the Gold Cup, then got into a public sparring match with his coach, the thought was that Pochettino might not bring his star man back right away. 

But while sources told me that Pulisic and Pochettino haven’t spoken since May, there’s also a sense that it’s time to move on. Just five two-match FIFA international windows remain before the World Cup kicks off on June 12 in Los Angeles. There’s no time to waste.

Meanwhile, though Josh Sargent famously wasn’t summoned for the Gold Cup — “it [was] One football decision and we wanted to see the other further, “Pocheto told reporters at that time-Sent Louis-Area Product has made every effort to earn an invitation, being named Captain of Norwich City and scoring in each of the first four matches of the English Championship Club to open the new campaign.

On Saturday, Midalasbrow’s target was a beauty in a 2–1 defeat to Middlesbro.

Stock up: decisive weather in France for Wea, Balogun

Tim Wah made a quiet start for the New Club Marsile, which was 63 minutes before the promoted Paris FC win 5–1. Somewhere else in Ligue 1, Foller Balogun started his season for Monaco, a heartbreaking in Lily, the distance in the final-gais loss was and was going away. Balogun, who missed the most in the last season after shoulder surgery and then withdrew from a gold cup due to an ankle injury, a little rust. At least he is healthy: Balogun Hans was not available to America because Pochtino was hired last September, with his final appearance in Copa Amrika.

Stock up: Payi, make promising returns with right injuries

Ricardo Payi also underwent surgery in the previous season, and the 22 -year -old frontrner has taken more time to heal for more than expected. But Rangi Texon Dutch Champs was able to create their first league appearance of 2025-26 for PSV Endhovan, coming for the last four minutes of winning 4–2 over Gronton on Saturday. If Peppi is not included on Tuesday, the opportunities for surgeant probably improve.

Then, Haji Wright formed the Gold Cup team over the surgent, and scored a goal from the bench in the host tournament opener before leaving the camp with an Akilis problem. On Saturday, Wright scored two good goals in Queens Park Rangers 7–1 in Coventry City.

Stock Down: Aaronson’s low role in Leeds?

Brendon Aaronson started 43 games for Leeds United last season, mostly as a central attacker midfielder, as United in the second level championship in the last season. But he has entered the bench in each of the first two matches of Leeds in the Premier League, both as a right -wing. Aaronson played the last 24 minutes of losing a 5–0 to Arsenal on Sunday.

Stock Down: Gold Cup stars are still out with injuries

Malik Tilman was one of the biggest winners in the Gold Cup. But the former PSV attacker lost the Bundaliga season-opening necklace of Bear Leverkusen from Hofenheim at home, as due to the issue of a calf of a calf that he cost him very high president. In July, Leverkusen paid around $ 47 million to acquire Tilman.

Patrick Egimang, which started nine out of 12 matches of USMNT this year, sidelined for the championship side deeri county after repairing the hernia. Last month, MLS Side Charlotte FC was paid around $ 8 million to woo the Agamang in England.

Stock Up: Adams, Cardoso Strong Start

Tyler Adams performs his best with Premier League Bornmouth. Adams, which was limited to 31 of a potential 76 Premier League Games for Cherry in the last two years, helped set up his team’s loan goal in a 1-0 win over wolves on Saturday and played all two minutes of the first two matches of Bornmouth.

After arriving from Real Betis for $ 35 million in this summer, Johnny Cardso has started both laga matches for Atteletico Madrid, including 1-1 tie with Elch on Saturday. Cardoso was replaced by World Cup winner Antony Grizman with about 20 minutes to leave.

Aidan Morris was named Man of the Match for the second consecutive week, which was won 2–1 over Sergeant and Norvich after Middlesbro’s 2–1 win. Morris started the drama, which led to the last winner of Boro with defensive intervention, then provided primary aid. Morris started Poch’s first two matches in the US Helm last October, but has not been called back since then.

And in France, Tanner Tamensman has been 90 for Lyon in each of his first two liter 1 outing, both win.

Stock Down: McCeni requires new scenes for Muscani?

Since his arrival five years ago, a regular starter in Turin, Weston McCeni manager Igor Tuder’s season-opening 2–0 was on the bench to win Parma. McCeni was inserted for the last minute. (Later during training on the field, a goal of racial misconduct was from visiting McKeni fans.)

Younus did not play at all in the curtain-raiser of Musa AC Milan. And he may have represented Rosonary For the last time, Atalanta suggested to move Seri A rivals with reports in Italy.

The transfer of Paxten Aaronson in Colorado Rapids is eager, but not because the quality of playing in Dutch Aredivisi (where he spent the last two sessions on the loan from the intrach frankfurt) is better than the MLS. By the time the Rapids ran a deep playoffs at a standing Western conference, the 21 -year season can be over only after a handful of sports.

Guards

Stock up: return of JD; Dest dust of war

Summer knee surgery left Star Antony “JD” Robinson out of the Gold Cup, the entire Presiden and Cottagers August 16 PMM Opener vs. Brighton. Therefore, JD was inserted for a 1–1 draw with Manchester United on Saturday for Fulham’s final 28 minutes, a sore throat for USMNT supporters. Perhaps Pocheto too. JD had hockey aid at the level of Phulham.

In the opposite direction, Sergino Dest looks like its old self. Dest PSV went to 90 for the second week for Eindhoven and raised his second direct assistance by adding his stunning season-opening round against Sparta Rotterdam on 9 August.

Top American Center Back Chris Richards has been fantastic for an unbeaten crystal palace through two premiere league games. Their regular USMNT partners, Tim Reem, have been much better for Charlotte because after going back to their normal place in the middle of the left side. On Sunday, Reem helped Crown a clean sheet in a 1–0 win over the New York Red Bulls.

Talking about the shutout, Mark McCenzie and to another place have not yet accepted through two liter 1 game. McKenzie played both competitions as a right-sided center in the 3-4-3 setup of manager Frank Hyce.

In MLS, Alex Freeman, just behind Orlando City, has carried forward his game since the Gold Cup, where he started all six matches. Freeman and Lions meet Lionel Messi’s Inter Miami in Wednesday’s League Cup semi -finals. Since the Gold Cup ended, the Lefty Max Arfaston has three goals in 10 games for the Columbus Crew.

Finally, in Scotland, Cameron Carter-Wickers remain the heart-and-soul of Celtic’s central protector; The 27 -year -old World Cup vet played every minute of his first three matches before resting before the UEFA Champions League qualifier in Kazakhstan.

Stock Down: Skli Getting Out Crowd?

Framean shook the head on the scully for the Gold Cup; Now back with the Dest, just can’t have space for Skli in September.

The Auston Trustee has lost his job next to Carter-Wakers, which is with hoops; The trustee has started one of the five matches under Brendon Rogers as the new season has started.

Will MLS Miles Robinson and/or Walker Zimraman’s defenders survive? Both were in Gold Cup, but played seven and six minutes respectively. Young Kevin Parades remain out with a long -term leg injury.

Goalkeeper

Stock up: Turner or Freeze? Can not be wrong right now.

Now that the matte turner (finally) is playing again and the old/new club is playing well for the New England Revolution, there is no reason to think about the 2022 World Cup starter that does not eventually win its role as the number 1 backstop of Americans.

Pochettino could still stick to the net freeze in the net next month after the NYCFC keeper – which were never disturbed before June – the shorthand took Americans to the Gold Cup final. Either way, Harvard Graduate is now at least backup, with Patrick Shulte and Zack Stephen jumped, both of them were hurt in this summer. Chris Brady served as the third string in the Gold Cup.

Stock Down: There is very little space for error in horawath

If Ethan Horwath has no benefit on the MLS-based contingent, it is that it can play regularly in Europe when the domestic league gets dark from the end of December to the end of February. But the 30-year-old, which was given a loan from Cardiff City to Sheffield on Wednesday last week, started a shot at 2–2 in Wrexham on Saturday, scoring a shot, leading to a goal. Fortunately for Horwath, his side returned to achieve a point. Owl hosted Leeds in the EFL Cup action on Tuesday.
