New Delhi: A huge effigy of US President Donald Trump was paraded through the streets of Nagpur on Saturday as part of the Marbat Festival, local people recently used the celebration to protest against 50% of Indian imports.The procession’s scene shouted slogans to the residents, holding the placard and recognized the huge trump figure through the city. Read a placard, another protector said, “Tariffs on our goods will only ruin their business.”Some participants took Placards, accusing Washington of hypocrisy, one of whom read, “American uncles ban India, yet carry Russian products themselves.”The pupil built with soil and grass was wearing a dark red suit, white shirt and yellow tie, and was decorated with marigold garlands and posters. At one point, it rotated in circles and brought face to face with another pupil, which was pulling the cheers from the crowd.The Marbat festival, which is in the late 1800s, is an annual Nagpur tradition, where the local people symbolically parade parade to take out evil and highlight contemporary political, social and economic issues. Over time, it has developed in a mixture of protest, satire and entertainment.Trump announced 25% mutual tariff against India in early August after the trade talks failed, followed by 25% levy on the end of this month on the continuous purchase of India during the Ukraine War. India strongly opposed the measures, called “inappropriate, inappropriate and unfair”, while indicating that it will maintain energy relationship with Moscow.“If you have a problem in India to buy oil or sophisticated products from Russia, do not buy from us. No one forces you. Europe buys, buys America, so if you don’t like it, don’t buy it,” India replied.(With input from agencies)
