Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said that he has directed to start negotiations to end the war in Gaza on the release of all the remaining hostages and the terms “acceptable to Israel”.
Netanyahu told the Israeli soldiers on Thursday night that his cabinet had approved a massive attack plans on the Gaza city in the north of the region, despite a comprehensive international and domestic opposition.
Hamas on Monday agreed to a proposal prepared by the intermediaries of Katri and Egypt for the 60-day ceasefire, which will look at the release of half of the remaining hostages in Gaza according to Qatar.
But for the first time, Netanyahu has not currently accepted the deal on the table.
In a video statement during a visit with the headquarters of Gaza Division in Israel on Thursday night, Netanyahu stated that he had “directed to start a conversation immediately for the release of all our hostages”.
He said, “I have come to control Gaza City and approve the plan of IDF (Israel Defense Forces) to keep control of Gaza City and defeat Hamas,” he said.
Netanyahu said, “These two cases – by defeating Hamas and issuing to all our hostages – go hand in hand,” Netanyahu said, without providing details about the next phase without talks.
Israeli officials have raised their voice against a ceasefire deal this week, which will only include partial release of hostages.
Israel believes that only 20 out of 50 hostages are still alive after 22 months of the war.
