A low-pride earthquake hit the Omani exclusion of Madha on Thursday morning, part of a part of a minor earthquake incidents recorded in the entire region recently. However, the shiver was not felt by the residents and had no effect, its occurrence follows other small earthquakes in Al -Sila and Khor Fakan, which attracts attention to the growing geological activity of the region.
Morning earthquake in Mada
According to the National Center of Meteorological (NCM) through the National Earthquaker Network, a magnitude 2.2 earthquake was recorded in the Mada area of Oman at 5:13 am on Thursday. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 5 km. Despite the shiver, the authorities confirmed that it was not felt by the residents and had no effect on the surrounding areas including the UAE. The phenomenon was classified as a minor seismic phenomenon, which is below the threshold for a “strong” earthquake – usually defined as 5 or more magnitude.
Understand the unique geography of Mada
Mada is a 75 hectare, which is 75 hectares of Oman, which is completely surrounded by the United Arab Emirates. The region is located within the eastern region of the UAE, limiting the Emirates of Sharjah, Fujarah and Ras al Khaimah. Although isolated, Mada is officially administered as part of the Musandam Governor of Oman. Connecting the geographical complexity of the region is the presence of Nahawa village, an enclave within the Mada. Nahwa has about 40 houses and is part of the Emirates of Sharjah, making it an enclave within an excluded. The specific position of Mada within the United Arab Emirates makes it generous and logically unique, especially when it comes to judicial responsibilities such as disaster management and seismic monitoring.
Recent seismic activity in the entire region
The tremors in Mada follow two other minor earthquakes that were recorded in the United Arab Emirates earlier this month. On August 5, at 8:35 pm, a magnitude 2.0 earthquake was detected in Sharjah city Khor Fakkan. The shiver was a little felt by some residents, but according to the NCM, it had no average effect. A few days later, a strong magnitude 3.5 earthquake killed the Chhote Abu Dhabi city of Al Sila near the border of Saudi Arabia. The incident was lightly felt in the surrounding area, but again, no loss or disruption was reported. While the earthquakes of this magnitude are not uncommon in the surrounding areas, especially in Iran, they remain relatively rare in the UAE and Oman. However, minor shocks triggered by distant seismic activity are sometimes registered by local surveillance stations.
Earthquaker risk in UAE and Oman
Although the Arabian Peninsula is not known for traditionally high seismic activity, regional surveillance has shown an increase in small-permission shock in recent years. Officials said that most of these incidents are harmless and often unfit, but they underline the importance of continuous observation. The National Center of Meteorological, through its national seismic network, continues to monitor seismic activity in the entire region in real time. While the Thursday incident in Mada did not take any risk for the residents, its occurrence of its incident within a broad pattern of minor earthquakes highlights the need for the ongoing awareness.
